Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball swept by PSAC West foe Slippery Rock

Johnstown, PA

Leitner_Abi.jpgAbi Leitner's team-high nine kills were not enough to stop Slippery Rock and its potent offense as it swept Pitt-Johnstown in straight sets 25-12, 25-12, 25-23 on Saturday afternoon in the Sports Center.

The Mountain Cats slipped to 7-9 overall and 1-3 in the PSAC West.

After being down two sets to none, Pitt-Johnstown settled in throughout much of the third set in an attempt to stay alive.

After being down 23-20, the Mountain Cats found themselves down by just one on two separate occasions at 23-22 and 24-23. But each time they were denied a game-tying point and a service error gave The Rock a victory to improve to 5-10 overall and 2-2 in conference play.

Abigail Koeller paced Slippery Rock with a match-high 18 kills. Erica Selfridge recorded nine kills. Jaeden Yost and Peytan Gullickson racked up 18 and 17 assists, respectively. Kate Lachendro collected 21 digs while Selfridge had eight. Maria Lucas, Yost, Selfridge and Koeller all had two service aces.

Mallory Pinske and Lualis Alvarado combined for 11 kills for the Mountain Cats. Leitner added five blocks, while Pinske added two. Adiamar Beaz provided 17 assists. Gabi DeRenzo had a team-high nine digs and Alvarado added six.

Pitt-Johnstown hosts Indiana University (Pa.) on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Sports Center.
