
Peyton Alazaus poured in a career-high 32 points and grabbed six rebounds as Pitt-Johnstown routed Seton Hill 73-53 on Wednesday night at The Katherine Mabis McKenna Center. The Mountain Cats have won six out of their last eight games to move to 10-6 (7-3 PSAC).
Coming off a performance in which she posted game-highs of 16 points, nine rebounds and five assists in a 62-42 win over IUP, the junior guard out of Ohio shot 68.8% (11 of 16) from the field, knocked down four 3-pointers and went a perfect 6 of 6 from the free throw line.
Olivia Fasick added 13 points and distributed a game-high seven assists for Pitt-Johnstown. Ashley Norling recorded 12 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals.
After an evenly played first quarter, Pitt-Johnstown turned it on offensively in the second. Leading by just one at 21-20 after a pair of free throws by the Griffins, the Mountain Cats capped a 17-3 run to end the first with two free throws from Alazaus to take a 38-23 lead at the break.
Pitt-Johnstown shot 69.2% overall from the floor in the second and drilled five of its six 3-point attempts to outscore Seton Hill 25-11 in the period. Alazaus had 18 points at the half, and Fasick provided 11.
It was much of the same story in the second half as the Mountain Cats increased their advantage to as many as 30 when Alazaus scored on a layup to make it 61-31 with just 1:47 to play in the third.
The Mountain Cats limited the Griffins to just a 35.4% clip from the floor over the final 20 minutes to ensure there would be no comeback. Pitt-Johnstown also controlled the interior, outscoring Seton Hill in the paint 38-26.
Makalyn Clapper drilled a three in the waning seconds to give Pitt-Johnstown a 13-12 lead after one.
Christiane Frye scored a team-high 15 points for the Griffins, who dropped to 12-7 (5-5 PSAC).
The Mountain Cats will host Slippery Rock on Saturday at 1 p.m.
