
Ashley Norling poured in a game-high 22 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and dished out a career-high 11 assists to Pitt-Johnstown to a 78-69 PSAC victory in Saturday's regular season finale at Slipper Rock. Pitt-Johnstown, which secured the No. 5 seed in the West for the PSAC tournament, is 16-12 overall and 13-9 in conference-play. The Mountain Cats will open the PSAC Tournament Monday night at West No. 4 Indiana (PA).
Along with Norling, who was also 8-8 from the line, Pitt-Johnstown got 15 points and a game-high 11 rebounds from
Peyton Alazaus, and 14 points apiece from
Hayden Taylor and
Makalyn Clapper.
Olivia Fasick added seven points, five rebounds, and five assists, and
Cassidy Crawford scored six points.
Pitt-Johnstown, which shot 69% in the opening quarter, scored its first 16 points in the paint, including Norling's layup that capped a 12-3 run and put the Mountain Cats on top by eight six minutes in. Slippery Rock answered with a 3-pointer from Jordan Kauffman that cut it to three and a late jumper from Jada Ward to make it 21-19.


Pitt-Johnstown stayed hot and wrapped-up the first half shooting 57% from the floor and held a 28-12 advantage in points in the paint to take maintain the lead. Deleah Gibson's 3-pointer at the 6:15 mark of the second quarter briefly gave the lead back to the Rock, but baskets from Alazaus and Clapper put the Mountain Cats up by four and Pitt-Johnstown took a, 35-33, lead into the break.
It stayed close throughout the third quarter, with neither team able to build a lead larger than four. A jumper from Isabellah Middleton as time expired gave Slippery Rock a 52-50 lead.
However, Alazaus' 3-pointer with 7:40 to play broke a 54-all tie and put the Mountain Cats in front for good. Norling hit a pair of free-throws at 3:37 to increase the lead to 10 at 69-59.
Pitt-Johnstown closed out the day shooting 50.9% (27-53) from the field, while holding the Rock to just 36.5% (23-63). The Mountain Cats were also a perfect 21-21 from the charity stripe, our rebounds Slippery Rock, 36-34, and held a 44-30 advantage in points in the paint.
Middleton (19 points), Gibson (18 points), and Kelley McKnight (11 points) all scored in double figures for Slippery Rock, which ended its regular season at 15-13 overall and 10-12 in the PSAC.
