
Ashley Norling posted team-highs of 18 points and eight rebounds, and
Makalyn Clapper added 15 points (7-9 free-throws), but Gannon, ranked 15
th in the D2SIDA National Poll and 23
rd in the WBCA Coaches Poll, was able to secure an 83-66 PSAC victory over the Pitt-Johnstown women, Monday evening in Erie. The Mountain Cats are now 13-9 overall and 10-6 in conference-play.
Hayden Taylor collected 10 points, while
Peyton Alazaus and
Cassidy Crawford finished with nine and eight points, respectively, for Pitt-Johnstown.
Gannon started fast and hit three of its first four 3-pointers, including a pair from Maddie Wheatley, to run out to a double-digit lead. Pitt-Johnstown answered and outscored the Golden Knights, 17-9, to narrow it to three. Seven straight points from Alazaus capped a 10-4 Pitt-Johnstown spurt, before Clapper hit two free-throws with :15 left in the opening quarter to make it 20-17.
After Samantha Pirosko's layup and free-throw three minutes into the second quarter got Gannon's lead back out to 10, Norling followed with two baskets for the Mountain Cats to get it down to 29-23.

Pitt-Johnstown eventually trailed at the half, 41-29, to the nationally-ranked Golden Knights.
Similar to the first quarter, Gannon got off to a quick start in the third quarter and pushed the lead out to 45-29. Pitt-Johnstown continued to battle and shaved seven points off the deficit on two Crawford free-throws and a basket in the paint from Taylor midway through the quarter. However, the Golden Knights were able to regain the momentum and took a 65-48 advantage into the final quarter on their way to their fourth consecutive win.
Pitt-Johnstown ended the night shooting 37.55 (18-48) from the field and 3-10 from behind the arc. The Mountain Cats also hit 27-35 from the line. Gannon, which went 13-19 from the charity stripe, shot 50.8% (32-63) and 6-13 from 3-point range.
Pirosko finished with a game-high 22 points, while Emma Wright had 17 points and 10 rebounds, and Delaney Dogan had 13 points and 11 boards for the Golden Knights, now 22-3 overall and 14-3 in the PSAC.
Pitt-Johnstown travels to a PSAC West game at Indiana (PA) on Wednesday, then returns home to the Sports Center to host a conference doubleheader with the men's team against Seton Hill on Saturday. The women will tip-off against the Griffins at 1 p.m., with the men's game to follow at 3 p.m.
