Baseball Drops Two at Charleston to Wrap-up Three-Game Series

Charleston, W.Va.

The Mountain Cat baseball team closed out a three-game non-conference series at Charleston (WV) with a pair of tough losses on Saturday.  After suffering a tight, 5-4, loss in game one, the Golden Eagles opened up an early lead and went on to a 17-3 in the nightcap.  The Mountain Cats are now 6-7.

In the opener, Pitt-Johnstown erased a 1-0 deficit with three runs in the top of the third.  Jake Ansell led off with a triple and scored on Alex Glumac's base hit to tie it.  Then, with tow outs, Evan Beach's base hit to left scored Glumac and Josh Reynolds.

Charleston answered with two runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth to go in front, 5-4, and made it hold up.

Beach had two hits and drove in a pair, and Ansell added two hits, including a triple, and scored a run.  Glumac added a hit, an RBI and a run for the Mountain Cats.

Rodney Shultz got the start on the mound and suffered the loss after allowing five runs on four hits over the first 4.1 innings.  Shultz walked four and struck out three.  Taylor Squiric pitched the final two innings and held the Golden Eagles hitless, while striking out two and walking two.

In game two, Charleston jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings and went on to the 17-3 victory.
