13th-Ranked East Stroudsburg Sweeps Doubleheader From Mountain Cats

Johnstown, PA

Dylan Broderick drove in three runs in the opener against 13th-ranked East Stroudsburg, but the Warriors completed a four-game sweep over Pitt-Johnstown with 9-3 and 9-5 victories, Friday afternoon at Point Stadium.  The Mountain Cats slipped to 6-11.

In game one, Broderick's double to left-center kin the bottom of the first chased home Josh Ulery to put Pitt-Johnstown on top early, before East Stroudsburg struck for four runs in the top of the second.

A run in the top of the fourth and four more in the fifth increased it to 9-1, before Justin Turcovski and Jake Ansell scored on a Broderick base hit through the right sight in the bottom of the seventh to set the final at 9-3.

Broderick went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI, while Mario Disso and Ansell each had two hits for the Mountain Cats.

Rodney Shultz took the loss and fell to 2-2 after giving up five runs (4 earned) on five hits in 3.1 innings.

In game two, Pitt-Johnstown opened-up a 5-2 lead after two innings, but East Stroudsburg scored seven runs over the final three innings to complete the sweep with the 9-5 win.

After the Warriors struck for two runs in the top of the first off of Mountain Cat starter Ben Tomb, Pitt-Johnstown answered with three in the bottom of the frame.

Asher Corl's sacrifice fly cut the deficit in half and Joey Maun and Broderick scored on an East Stroudsburg error to give Pitt-Johnstown the lead.

The Mountain Cats added two more in the second on RBI singles from Maun and Karson Reffner that made it 5-2.

However, The Warriors responded with three runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings and one more in the seventh.

Ansell banged out two more hits, and Maun and Reffner each had a hit and drove in a run.

Jared Hoener took the loss in relief and is now 1-1.  Hoener surrendered three runs in 1/3 of an inning.  Tomb got a no-decision after allowing two runs on four hits over the first four innings.

With the four-game sweep, East Stroudsburg improved to 17-3.

Pitt-Johnstown will open PSAC West-play with a doubleheader at Gannon on Friday, before hosting the Golden Knights for a pair of games on March 25 at Point Stadium.
