The Pitt-Johnstown softball team got the 2023 season started on a high note with a 3-2 victory over Notre Dame (OH), Sunday afternoon at the Spring Games in Clermont, Fla.

After three scoreless innings,
Kayla Miehl led off Pitt-Johnstown's half of the fourth with a base hit.Â
Brynnae Coe entered the game as a pinch runner and moved to second when
Maddie Flowers reach on an error. Â Coe stole third and Flowers moved up to second.Â
Emilia Santiago followed with an RBI single to score Coe, and Hanna Gnibus's base hit plated Flowers to give the Mountain Cats a 2-0 lead.

The Mountain Cats added the eventual game-winner in the fifth.Â
Julia Mooney drew a walk, and
Shaylin Hagerman came in as a pinch runner. After Miehl doubled Hagerman to third, Hagerman scored on a wild pitch to increase it to 3-0.

Notre Dame answered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, but Pitt-Johnstown starter
Tori Radvan didn't let the Falcons get any closer in the complete-game win. Radvan allowed two runs, scattered seven hits, and struck out five.

Miehl went 2-for-4 with a double, while Santiago and Gnibus were each 1-for-3 with an RBI.
