Pitt-Johnstown ran into a hot hitting West Virginia Wesleyan squad and suffered a 10-0 setback in Monday's first of two games in Leesburg, Fla. The Mountain Cats, 1-2 to start the season, got doubles from
Maddie Flowers and
Kayla Miehl.
West Virginia Wesleyan came out and scored three runs in the top of the first, before taking advantage of a Pitt-Johnstown fielding miscue and adding four more, including Andie Dizon's three-run homer, in the second.
The Bobcats were able to put three more on the scoreboard in the sixth and went on to the win.
Julia Shinavski took the loss for the Mountain Cats after giving up seven runs, but just three earned runs, over the first two innings. Miehl came in and shut the Bobcats down for the next three innings, before surrendering three runs in the sixth.
Flowers and Miehl doubled for Pitt-Johnstown, while
Julia Mooney and
Shaylin Hagerman also collected base hits.
West Virginia Wesleyan evened it record at 5-5.
