Mountain Cats fall to Seton Hill in PSAC West doubleheader

Johnstown, PA

Pitt-Johnstown suffered a pair of setbacks, 9-4 and 12-6, at the hands of PSAC West leading Seton Hill in a softball doubleheader on Thursday at V.E. Erickson Complex. The Mountain Cats slipped to 11-25 overall and 6-18 within the conference.

Jenna Tallman drew a one out walk in the bottom of the first of game one and came around to score after Kayla Miehl reached on an error and advanced to third on a throwing error by the Griffins.

Tori Radvan belted a two-out double to score Miehl and give Pitt-Johnstown an early 2-0 advantage.

However, after the Griffins got a run back in the third, they took the lead for good in the fourth when Kylie Hegland doubled in two runs to make it 3-2.

Seton Hill scored three runs on five hits in the fifth and tacked on three more on three hits in the sixth to up the lead to 9-2.

Radvan notched another RBI on a single that scored pinch runner Sydney Mitchell in home half of the sixth. Maddie Flowers connected on a solo home run in the seventh to set the final.

Lauren Dellet (15-4) secured the win in the circle for the Griffins, while Radvan was charged with the loss after five innings of work.

With game two tied at 3-all heading into the top of the fifth, Seton Hill turned it in their favor with four runs in the inning and four more in the sixth to go up 11-4.

Radvan reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Tallman, who doubled with one out, to score and provide the Mountain Cats with a 1-0 lead after an inning.

Laura Fox led off the third inning with a triple down the left field line and later scored on Julia Mooney's sacrifice fly. Miehl followed with a walk and Radvan singled to put two on with two outs. Mia Smith's single to right-center scored Miehl and knotted the game at 3-all.

The Griffins tallied four runs on just two hits to forge ahead for good.

Mia Smith (8-9) suffered the loss for the Mountain Cats, going 5.1 innings and striking out four. Chloe Miller (7-7) garnered the win for the Griffins, who improved to 24-12 (17-5 PSAC West).
