Mountain Cats swept by Seton Hill in PSAC West doubleheader

Johnstown, PA

The Pitt-Johnstown baseball team was swept 6-2 and 9-4 in a doubleheader at the hands of visiting Seton Hill on Monday afternoon. The Mountain Cats dropped to 8-17 overall and 2-6 in the PSAC Western Division.

Despite falling behind 3-0 in the fifth inning of game one, Pitt-Johnstown battled back to make it a one-run game on Josh Ulery's two-run single that scored Dylan Broderick and Erik Rhodes.  But that was all the closer the Mountain Cats would get as the Griffins tacked on three insurance runs in their half of the seventh to set the final.

Seton Hill's Aidan Layton (3-1) picked up the win after throwing a complete game, giving up just two runs on three hits with three strikeouts compared to just one walk.

Seth Shuey (0-4) suffered the loss for the Mountain Cats, surrendering three runs on four hits in 4.2 innings of work. Broderick and Rhodes tallied the other hits for Pitt-Johnstown.

Unlike the opener, game two featured plenty of offense in the first two frames.

After Seton Hill notched two runs in the top of the first in game two, Pitt-Johnstown tied the game in the bottom half when cleanup hitter Devon Boyles mashed a two-run homer to straight away center field.

The Griffins posted a pair of runs in the top half of the second with the help of Jared Dowey, who doubled in Noah Sweeney.

Noah Donis led off Pitt-Johnstown's second with a double down the left field line and went to third thanks to a balk. With one out, Josh Reynolds singled to center to bring home Donis and make it 4-3.

Reynolds advanced to second on a wild pitch and came around to tie the game on Mario Disso's RBI single to right.

The Griffins grabbed the lead for good with four runs on four hits in the fourth to go up 8-4. They added another run in the sixth to help preserve their 13th straight win to improve to 20-7 overall and 8-0 in the PSAC West.

Colton Cornell (0-1) suffered the loss for the Mountain Cats, giving up four runs on three hits to go along with two strikeouts and two walks.

Pitt-Johnstown visits PSAC East foe Shippensburg on Tuesday. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
