
Pitt-Johnstown took advantage of a match-high 11 kills from
Lualis Alvarado to improve to 8-2 with a 25-23, 25-13, 25-7 sweep over Notre Dame (OH) in Saturday's third round of the Wheeling-West Liberty Tournament in West Liberty W.Va.

After holding on for a two-point win in the opening set, the Mountain Cats went on to outscore the Falcons, 50-20, over the final two sets.

Along with Alvarado,
Journey Welling recorded a career-high eight kills, while
Mallory Pinske added five kills, a solo block, and a block assist for Pitt-Johnstown.Â
Natalie Lippincott chipped-in seven kills, and
Brooke Pelloni had four kills.

Adiamar Beaz tallied a match-highs of 23 set assists and three services aces to go along with four kills and eight digs, and
Gabi DeRenzo added a match-high 17 digs and three assists. The Mountain Cats also got seven digs from
Jessica Krug in the sweep.

Notre Dame, which dropped to 1-6 on the season, was led by Sydney Bray's seven kills and six digs. Kelsie Palmer and Diamond Baker collected four kills apiece for the Falcons.

Pitt-Johnstown will close out the tournament against West Liberty Saturday evening, before making their 2023 home and PSAC West debut against Seton Hill, Friday at 6 p.m. in the Sports Center.
