After
Anson Portzline's goal midway through the second half knotted it at one, Slippery Rock scored with just over 11 minutes to play to secure a, 2-1, PSAC Western Division victory over the Pitt-Johnstown men's soccer team, Wednesday afternoon at Windber Stadium. The Mountain Cats are now 3-7-1 overall and 0-3-1 in conference-play.
Pitt-Johnstown held a 13-11 advantage in shots for the match, including out-shooting the Rock 8-3 in in opening half, but neither team was able to find the back of the net until Shaun Spencer headed Ignacio Rullan's corner kick behind Mountain Cat goalkeeper
PJ Derksen in the 61
st minute to put Slippery Rock on top.
The Mountain Cats answered quickly to tie it when Portzline took
Alexzander Toto and
Jack Moyer's touch passes and beat Adam Davies five minutes later.
However, Rasmus Fugl's goal with 11:10 remaining in regulation put the Rock back in front, 2-1, and proved to be the match-winner.
Derksen took the tough loss after allowing both goals and making three saves, while Davies picked up the win in goal for Slippery Rock after holding Pitt-Johnstown to one goal and making six saves.
The Rock improved to 4-3-3 overall and 1-1-2 in the PSAC West.
Pitt-Johnstown travels to nationally-ranked Gannon Saturday for a PSAC match, before returning home to host a conference match against Lock Haven on Wednesday.
