Pitt-Johnstown could not sustain enough offensive momentum in a 3-0 setback to Slippery Rock at Morrow Field House on Tuesday evening.
The Mountain Cats were defeated by a 21-25, 17-25, 21-25 margin and dropped to 15-6 (3-5 PSAC West.
Lualis Alvarado once again led the Mountain Cats with a team-high 11 kills and provided 10 digs and two blocks. Sophomore Ellie Zuro racked up 10 kills, marking her seventh match of the season with at least that number. Mallory Pinske chipped in six kills and a team-high four blocks. Adiamar Beaz dished out a match-high 34 assists, while Gabriella DeRenzo racked up a team-high 15 digs.
An attack error from the Rock helped the Mountain Cats tie the first set at 13-all, but Slippery Rock scored the next three points and never trailed again to take a 1-0 lead.
Pitt-Johnstown never forged ahead during the second set despite tying the match on two separate occasions early on thanks to kills from Alvarado and Zuro.
The Mountain Cats led early on in the third set before it became a 9-all tie. After working back with a 9-3 rally to claw back within 23-21, the comeback was cut short. The Rock benefited from a kill and an attack error to seal the match.
Callie Chivalier supplied a match-high 13 kills for the Rock, which moved to 9-11 (2-6 PSAC).
Pitt-Johnstown will host PSAC East foe Shippensburg on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Sports Center.
