Men’s Soccer Comes Up Just Short in 2-1 PSAC Loss to California (PA)

Toto, AlexzanderJames, JaegerAlexzander Toto's goal gave Pitt-Johnstown an early advantage, but California (PA) answered with a pair of goals later in the half and made them stand up in a, 2-1, PSAC Western Division win over the Mountain Cats, Wednesday afternoon at Windber Stadium.  Pitt-Johnstown dropped to 3-11-1 overall and 0-7-1 in conference-play.
 
The Mountain Cats struck for the opening goal just 15 minutes into the match when Toto finished an assist from Jaeger James.
 
However, Cullin Woytovich score two goals in a span of nine minutes to put the Vulcans on top.  Brady Olsen and Max Llado set up Woytovich's first goal that knotted it at one in the 17th minute, before Woytovich added his second of the day and the eventual match-winner off of an assist from Shiko Ichimiya in the 26th minute.
 
Mountain Cat goalkeeper PJ Derksen suffered the tough loss after surrendering both goals.  Derksen faced 15 shots from Cal U and made five saves., while Kiernan Webb was able to keep Pitt-Johnstown off the scoreboard in the second half to preserve the victory in net for the Vulcans.  Webb saw a dozen shots, made three saves, and allowed one goal.
 
With the win, Cal U improved to 4-7-4 overall and 1-5-2 in the PSAC West.
 
The Mountain Cats travel to a PSAC West match at Seton Hill on Saturday, before closing out the 2024 season against 12th-ranked Gannon on Nov. 8.
