Box Score
Pitt-Johnstown rallied from three runs down in the seventh to knock off Southern Connecticut State 4-3 and pick up its first win of the season in the second game of a back-to-back doubleheader on Monday.
The Mountain Cats moved to 1-5 on the season.
Mia Smith threw a complete game in the circle and collected the win after giving up just three runs on three hits while striking out seven.
Despite heading into the seventh down 3-0, Pitt-Johnstown made the most of its final at-bat after capitalizing on a number of mistakes by the Owls. Jenna Tallman was hit by a pitch to start before a fielder's choice erased her and allowed Meghan McDonough to reach.
Julia Mooney and Kayla Miehl reached on back-to-back fielding errors to load the bases. Tori Radvan collected an RBI when she was hit by a pitch to bring home McDonough. Izzy DePalma's RBI groundout to second brought home courtesy runner Brynnae Coe to cut the deficit to one.
Smith followed that up with the biggest blow with two outs when she singled in Miehl and pinch-runner Krista Brunson to provide the Mountain Cats a one-run advantage that was not put in jeopardy in the bottom of the frame.
The Mountain Cats continue their weeklong Florida trip with a pair of games on Tuesday starting at 1:45 p.m. against Salem (WV) and a 5 p.m. matchup opposite of Saint Michael's (VT).
