Pitt-Johnstown didn't have much of an answer for the experience that PSAC West-leading Seton Hill brings to the table. The Mountain Cats were on the wrong end of a 14-1 decision in the opener before being dealt an 8-0 loss in the second game of a conference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon at the SHU Softball Complex.
Mia Smith was tagged with the game one loss for the Mountain Cats, who fell to 6-24 overall and 3-15 in the conference. The Griffins improved to 31-9 overall backed up by a PSAC-best 19-3 inside the division.
Seton Hill wasted no time manufacturing what proved to be a sturdy 7-0 advantage in the first in large part because of Lauren Dellett's grand slam. Dellett, the reigning PSAC West Pitcher of the Year, also collected the victory in the circle after tossing five innings and allowing just one earned run on two hits.
Freshman Addison Hilligsberg came on in relief and threw the remaining 3.2 innings, while conceding six earned runs on nine hits.
Kayla Miehl singled and scored the only run in the second when she took two extra bases and came around on a throwing error. The other hit came from Shaylin Hagerman, who cracked a leadoff double in the third but was left stranded.
Two extended innings that included a three-run first inning was enough for Griffins' starter Logan Hartman (17-3), who gave up two hits, struck out two and walked one in a complete-game win.
Both of the Mountain Cats' hits came in the top of the first. Tori Radvan led off with a single, but immediately became part of 4-6-3 double play. Julia Mooney smacked a double with two outs before Miehl grounded out to end the inning.
Julie Shinavski recorded two strikeouts and two walks and was dealt the loss in the circle.
The Mountain Cats visit Mercyhurst for another PSAC West doubleheader on Friday beginning at 2 p.m. from Erie.
