
There was no shortage of offensive fireworks when Pitt-Johnstown and Bloomsburg met in the final non-division game of the season for both teams. The Mountain Cats pounded out 17 hits and posted at least three runs in four separate innings, including an eight-run sixth, to rout the Huskies 24-13 on Tuesday afternoon.
The victory boosted the Mountain Cats to 18-27 overall (7-17 PSAC West). The Huskies are 13-31Â (8-20 PSAC West).
In a game that took roughly four hours to complete, the Mountain Cats launched five home runs, their most in a single game all season, and notched a season-high in runs scored behind a pair of players that have packed the most punch in the middle of their lineup.
Redshirt sophomore Justin Turcovski enjoyed a career-day, going 4-for-5 with a pair of home runs, including a grand slam that capped the sixth and made it 21-8. He scored four runs and knocked in a career-high seven runs, including an RBI single in the first and a two-run shot in the fourth.
Josh Ulery matched that with a 4-for-6 performance of his own that included a three-run home run. The junior recorded a career-high five RBIs and scored four times.Â
Second-baseman Alex Glumac was ultra-productive at the top of the order, finishing 3-for-4 with three RBIs and four runs scored. Aidan Steinbugl was the fourth Mountain Cat to secure a multi-hit game after going 2-for-4 with four runs batted in. Steinbugl doubled in a pair of runs in the third and cracked a two-run home run in the sixth that increased the lead to 15-8.
The Huskies grabbed a 5-4 lead after three complete innings before the Mountain Cats fired back with six runs to take the lead for good. Glumac singled home Erik Rhodes to tie the game. Alex Ebeling walked and Ulery's three run shot put the Mountain Cats on top 8-5. Boyles walked and Turcovski cashed in with his first home run that made it 10-5.
Pitt-Johnstown utilized nine different pitchers and seven of them threw at least an inning beginning with Taylor Squiric, who started and gave up two runs, one earned, on one hit in his one inning of work. Brody Roberts allowed just one hit in a scoreless 1.2 innings to collect the win.
The Mountain Cats led by as many as 13 after the sixth inning after tagging five out of the eight Bloomsburg pitchers for at least three earned runs. Xander Velez was charged with the loss.
Pitt-Johnstown will wrap up its 2024 season with a four-game series against California (Pa.) beginning with a pair of games set for Thursday starting at 1 p.m. from Point Stadium.
