Lualis Alvarado hit .400 and collected a match-high 15 kills, and
Brooke Pelloni had 10 kills to lead five Mountain Cats who had five or more kills in a 3-0 sweep over Chestnut Hill in Friday's First Round of the IUP Crimson Hawk Classic presented by the Hilton Garden Inn. Pitt-Johnstown remained unbeaten and improved to 9-0.
After taking the first two sets 25-15 and 25-18, the Mountain Cats closed out the Griffins with a 25-20 win in the third set.
As a team, the Mountain Cats hit .353, had nine aces, and took advantage of 46 kills, co pared to just 28 kills by Chestnut Hill.
Along with Alvarado and Pelloni, Pitt-Johnstown used seven kills from
Dannika Susko, six kills and three service aces from
Mallory Pinske, and five kills from
Natalie Lippincott.
Adiamar Beaz finished with a match-high 40 set assists, nine digs, and three aces, while
Gabriella DeRenzo had a match-high 14 digs.
Jessica Krug and
Karin Ilagan added eight and six kills, respectively for Pitt-Johnstown.
The Griffins, who fell to 1-2, were led by Rachel Mace's 13 kills and seven digs.
