Ellie Zuro Cirino,
Mallory Pinske, and
Dannika Susko combined for 20 kills, but Gannon took a 2-sets-to-none lead with narrow 25-23 and 25-20 wins, before closing out a three-set PSAC Western Division sweep over the Pitt-Johnstown volleyball team with a 25-16 victory in the final set. The Mountain Cats are now 11-4 overall and 2-1 in conference-play.
In a tight first set, Pitt-Johnstown was able to open up a 15-12 advantage on a
Natalie Lippincott block and a Gannon attack error. The Golden Knights battled back to regain the lead 23-22, the wrapped up the opening set with a 25-23 win on Nehir Yasicioglu kill.
Neither team was able to build a lead larger than two points for much of the second set. However, after an
Abby Berry kills put the Mountain Cats on top, 17-16, Gannon took control and outscored Pitt-Johnstown 9-3 the rest of the way to secure a 25-20 victory on Sydney Wake's kill.
Leading by two sets, Gannon charged out to an 8-1 lead in the final set, but Pitt-Johnstown used a 9-2 run of its own to tie it at 10, capped by
Caroline Knight's kills and
Jessica Krug's service ace. The Golden Knights


responded with eight unanswered points and used Abby Williams' kills to compete the sweep with the 26-16 win.
Zuro Cirino led Pitt-Johnstown with eight kills and six digs, while Pinske had six kills, an ace, and a block assist, and Susko added six kills and three digs. The Mountain Cats also got five kills, an ace and three digs from Knight.
Berry finished with a team-high 22 set assists, two kills, and eight digs, and Krug had a team-best 11 digs, two aces, and four assists for the Mountain Cats.
Avery Koontz chipped-in eight digs.
Gannon, which improved to 11-4 overall and 3-0 in the PSAC West, was paced by Yazicioglu's match-high 15 kills and Wake's 13 kills.
The Mountain Cats visit California (PA) for a PSAC West match on Friday, before returning home to host a conference match against Seton Hill on Oct. 11. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. in the Sports Center.
