Pitt-Johnstown could not break through against Gannon in 10-0 and 9-0 setbacks in a PSAC West doubleheader on Sunday afternoon. The Mountain Cats fell to 3-15 (0-4 PSAC).
Game One—Gannon 10, Pitt-Johnstown 0
The Mountain Cats were limited to just three hits in a game that was shortened to five innings. Mia Smith was charged with the loss after giving up 11 hits across five innings with three strikeouts and six walks.
The Golden Knights struck for two runs on two hits in the first before Smith shut them down over the next two innings. Brynnae Coe doubled with one out in the second, but back-to-back strikeouts from Gannon starter Maggie Lenda ended the threat.
Lenda (3-6) earned the win, striking out three over five innings. Gannon put the game out of reach in the fourth with six runs on six hits, including a grand-slam from Jenna Clontz that made it 8-0.
Julia Mooney singled with one out to lead off the Mountain Cats' half of the fourth, but back-to-back fielder's choices brought the inning to a close.
Gannon posted two more RBI base-hits in the fifth. Krista Brunson tripled with two outs in the fifth in an attempt to keep the game going, but a groundout ended it.
Game Two—Gannon 9, PItt-Johnstown 0
The Golden Knights once again afforded themselves a 2-0 lead after one complete inning. Two more runs on three hits in the third extended it to 4-0.
Hannah Gnibus slapped a double to open up the third inning, but was eventually left stranded on third base.
Two doubles and two singles helped Gannon take a 7-0 advantage in the fourth that proved too much for Pitt-Johnstown to overcome.
Isabella DePalma recorded a one-out double in the fourth and moved to third on Coe's single, but both were left on base when Gannon's Katie Armstrong worked her way out of the jam.
Armstrong struck out seven and walked one across all six innings.
Mahlon Yonkin suffered the loss in the circle for the Mountain Cats, giving up 12 hits in six innings.
