Justin Turcovski and
Cam Donaldson each had two hits, but Clarion made a five-run third inning stand up in a 5-2 PSAC Western Division victory over the Mountain Cats in a scheduled doubleheader at Point Stadium. Game two was postponed due to rain and rescheduled as a tripleheader in Clarion on Saturday starting at 1-:30 a.m.
Back-to-back singles and a Mountain Cat throwing error to start the top of the third gave Clarion the lead. Tyson Gill followed with a two-run triple to right, before the Golden Eagles made it 5-0 with two more unearned runs on a passed ball and a Connor Connor Booth RBI single.
The Mountain Cats, now 7-15 overall and 0-5 in the PSAC West, cut it to 5-2 with single runs in each of the sixth and seventh innings.
Calvin Iseminger tripled and scored on an
Erik Rhodes infield single in the sixth, and Donaldson singled and eventually scored on a Clarion fielding error to set the final at 5-2.
Along with Turcovski and Donaldson, Rhodes had a hit and an RBI, and Iseminger tripled and scored a run to pace the Mountain Cats.
Aiden Coleman suffered the loss and slipped to 3-3 after allowing five runs (2 earned) on 10 hits over the first 5.2 innings. Coleman fanned six and didn't allow a walk.
Seth Shuey tossed 1.2 scoreless innings out of the pen.
With the win, Clarion improved to 12-9 overall and 4-1 in the PSAC West.
After Saturday's tripleheader in Clarion, the Mountain Cats will begin a four-game conference series at nationally-ranked Seton Hill on Friday, before hosting the Griffins for a pair of games at Point Stadium on April 5.
