Mountain Cats Fall Short to Lynn in Spring Games Finale in Florida

Clermont, Fla.

Coe, BrynnaeBrunson, KristaPitt-Johnstown banged out 10 hits, including two apiece from Brynnae Coe and Krista Brunson, to battle back from a five-run deficit, but Lynn scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth to secure a 9-6 over Pitt-Johnstown in Friday's finale at the Spring Games in Clermont, Fla.  Pitt-Johnstown is 1-9.
 
Meghan McDonough reached on an error to start the game and eventually scored on a Julia Mooney sacrifice fly to give Pitt-Johnstown a 1-0 lead.
 
Lynn answered with six runs (3 unearned) in the bottom of the frame.  Aun'Yale led off with a triple and scored on a Mountain Cat error, before the Fighting Knights added five more, including a two-run double from Anabell O'Donnell and an RBI single from Kyleigh Hope.
 
After a walk to Jenna Tallman and a base hit from Coe, Brunson drove home Tallman to cut the Pitt-Johnstown deficit to 6-2 in the second inning.
 
The Mountain Cats battled all the way back to knot it at six with four runs in the top of the fourth.  Coe and Emma DiStefano both singled with one out ahead of Brunson's RBI double.  McDonough followed with a single that plated DiStefano, and Mooney drove home McDonough and Brunson with a double to cap the four-run inning.
 
However, the Fighting Knights countered with three runs in its half of the fifth, highlighted by Aiyana Hick's two-run single, to get the lead back out to three at 9-6.
 
Lynn's Gabriella Lindsey entered the game in relief of starter Kayley Zazzali and held the Mountain Cats scoreless on three hits over the final three innings to preserve the win and earn her first save of the year.
 
Brunson went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI, and Mooney doubled and drove in three for Pitt-Johnstown.  Coe also had to two hits and scored a run, and McDonough was 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.  Hannah Gnibus, Tallman, DePalma, and DiStefano each had one of the Mountain Cats' 10 hits.
 
Mahlon Yonkin slipped to 0-3 after giving up nine runs (5 earned) on 10 hits in six innings.  Yonkin struck out three and walked just one.
 
Kyra Sunga's was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs, and Hicks had two hits, drove in two, and scored two for Lynn.
 
Zazzali picked up the win and improved to 3-1.  Zazzali tossed the first four innings, allowed six runs (5 earned) on seven hits.
 
Lynn is now 12-11.
 
The Mountain Cats visit Charleston (WV) for a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday, then go to Salem (WV) for two more non-conference games on March 19, before opening PSAC West play with doubleheaders against Slippery Rock on March 21 and Gannon on March 22 at the Pitt-Johnstown Softball Field.
