Pitt-Johnstown's Zac Legars belted a two-run homerun and
Aiden Coleman and
Seth Shuey combined to limit Gannon to one run on three hits in a 6-1 win to open a PSAC West doubleheader in Erie on Friday. The Golden Knights held off a three-run Mountain Cat seventh inning in the nightcap to get the split with a 4-3 win. Pitt-Johnstown is now 10-22 overall and 2-12 in conference-play.
In the opener, a bases loaded walk to Frank Kula by Mountain Cat starter Coleman gave the Golden Knights a 1-0 lead after two innings.
Pitt-Johnstown answered with three runs in the top of the fourth, including LeGar's two-run homer to left, to take the lead, before
Noah Donis' RBI single scored
Devon Boyles from second and
Brody Roberts two-run base hit in the top of the sixth pushed it out to 6-1.
Aidan Steinbugl went 3-for-3 with a double and a run scored, while Roberts had two hits and drove in two, and LeGars added the two-run homer for Pitt-Johnstown.

Shuey held Gannon scoreless on just one hit over the final four innings in relief of Coleman to even his record at 1-1. Coleman pitched the first three innings and allowed one run on two hits, while striking out three and walking one.
In game two, Connor Smith's three-run homer to left-center off of
Brian Pirone highlighted a four-run Gannon first inning.
Neither team scored until the top of the seventh when the Mountain Cats scored three.
Stephen Rodgers scored on a Gannon fielding error to get Pitt-Johnstown on the board and Robert's fielder's choice plated
Nathan Helms to cut it to 4-2. However, after Legars double-home to make it a one-run game, Golden Knights' reliever Logan was able to get the final out to record his third save of the season.
Pirone settled down after the four-run first inning and held Gannon scoreless over the next four innings, but suffered the loss and fell to 1-5. Pirone scattered five hits, fanned six and walked one.
Cole Sansom allowed one hit in a scoreless sixth inning.
Legars had an RBI double and Roberts had a hit and an RBI for the Mountain Cats.
With the split, the Golden Knights are now 13-19 overall and 6-8 in the PSAC West.
The Mountain Cats and Gannon will complete their four-game PSAC series Saturday afternoon at Point Stadium in Johnstown. Tuesday's non-conference game against Shippensburg scheduled for 3 p.m. at Point Stadium has been canceled due to the Red Raiders having to make up conference games due to weather postponements.
