Mountain Cats Swept in Twin Bill at Gannon

Erie, Pa.

DePalma, IsabellaPitt-Johnstown could not recover from an early deficit in a 6-3 loss to Gannon in the opener before dropping the second game 9-0 in a PSAC West doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at McConnell Family Stadium.

The Mountain Cats sit at 6-20 overall (3-9 PSAC).

Game One—Gannon 6, Pitt-Johnstown 3

Isabella DePalma enjoyed a 4-for-4 day with four singles to pace the Mountain Cats, who recorded nine total hits.

Gannon scored three runs in the first off starting pitcher Mia Smith, who was tagged with the complete-game loss after scattering 10 hits with four strikeouts and three walks.

After the Golden Knights added one more in the second, the Mountain Cats manufactured a run in the fourth to get on the board. Krista Brunson singled with one out and Gianna Surra was hit by a pitch. Meghan McDonough reached on a fielding error on a pop-up to right that allowed Brunson to score and make it 4-1.

The Mountain Cats were in a 6-1 hole before they cut into the deficit again in the sixth. Surra singled, McDonough walked and Brynnae Coe hit into a fielder's choice that put runners on the corners with one out. Hannah Gnibus scored Surra with an RBI groundout.

After Julia Mooney walked, DePalma slugged home Coe with an RBI single to cap the scoring.

Maggie Lenda threw all seven innings and was the winning pitcher for the Golden Knights.

Game Two—Gannon 9, Pitt-Johnstown 0

The second contest revolved around Gannon starter Katie Armstrong, who allowed one hit with seven strikeouts and two walks over five innings in a complete-game win.

Surra singled up the middle to lead off the second inning, but the Mountain Cats went down in order from there.

Mahlon Yonkin took the loss after throwing the first 3 2/3 innings, giving up seven runs, six earned, on 10 hits with a strikeout and a walk. Addison Hilligsberg surrendered two runs in one inning of relief.

The Mountain Cats have a quick turnaround with a visit to Edinboro for another PSAC West doubleheader on Sunday starting at 1 p.m.
