The Pitt-Johnstown men's and women's basketball teams will host Edinboro in the middle doubleheader in a three-game PSAC West home stand, Saturday afternoon in the Sports Center. The women will tip off at 1 p.m. with the men's game against the Fighting Scots set for 3 p.m.
The Pitt-Johnstown women, 7-15 overall and 4-11 in the PSAC under second-year
Head Coach D'wan Shackleford-Vickroy, are coming off of a tough, 75-60, home loss to sixth-ranked Indiana (PA) on Wednesday.
Lexi Margolis knocked down eight three pointers, one shy of the Mountain Cat single-game record, and scored all of her career and game-high 26 points in the opening half to lead Pitt-Johnstown.
Angel Ezirim had 10 points, while
Sophia Ott scored eight points off the bench, and
Liv West added seven points and a team-high five rebounds. The Mountain Cats also earned a 76-72 overtime victory at Slippery Rock last Saturday behind Margolis' 23 points and Ezirim's 21 points.
Head Coach Callie Wheeler (8
th year) and the Edinboro Fighting Scots bounced back from a 71-65 home loss to IUP last Saturday to improve to 14-10 overall and 11-4 in the PSAC by upsetting fifth-ranked Gannon, 50-47, on Wednesday.
Rachael Manfredo led the way with 22 points,
Ava Haddad had 12 points and nine boards, and
Taylor Blunt chipped in 10 points and five rebounds for the Fighting Scots.
In the last meeting on Jan. 14, Pitt-Johnstown made the trip to Edinboro and suffered a tight, 69-60, PSAC West loss. West (15 points), Margolis (13 points), and Ezirim (11 points) all scored in double figures for the Mountain Cats. Haddad posted a game-high 24 points, and Blunt added 15 points to pace four Edinboro players who scored in double figures.
Bob Rukavina, in his 1000
th game as head coach at Pitt-Johnstown, and the Mountain Cat men's team comes in at 11-12 overall and 5-10 in the PSAC after a narrow, 88-82, home loss to IUP on Wednesday.
Baden Forup collected his 10
th straight and 16
th double-double of the season with 24 points and 10 rebounds, while
Adam Bilinsky had 20 points, and
Cedric Rault matched his career-high with 18 points and dished out eight assists. Pitt-Johnstown also got 10 points and six boards from
Ryan Calo and a game-high 11 rebounds from
Will Kromka.
In 37 seasons at Pitt-Johnstown, Coach Rukavina has accumulated 576 victories and ranks among the NCAA Division II leaders in wins and winning percentage. He has guided the Mountain Cats to all five of the programs' NCAA Division II Regional Tournament appearances and eight PSAC Tournament berths.
Third-year
Head Coach Justin Jennings and the Edinboro Fighting Scots, 11-11 overall and 7-8 in the PSAC, look to bounce back from conference losses to IUP last Saturday and fifth-ranked Gannon on Wednesday.
Mekhi Reynolds scored 19 points and
Rowan Carmichael added 16 points in Wednesday's 111-73 setback to the Golden Knights.
Pitt-Johnstown has won eight of the last 11 meetings between the teams, including an 82-68 win in Edinboro one month ago.
Vinnie Cugini scored a team-high 23 points, Forup had a double-double of 20 points and 11 boards, and Calo posted career-highs of 15 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists. The Fighting Scots got a game-high 26 points from
Evan Berger and 24 points and a game-high 14 rebounds from
Bryce Baez.
Pitt-Johnstown will wrap up the three-game home stand with a PSAC West doubleheader against California (PA) on Wednesday at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. in the Sports Center.
