Mountain Cats Earn Doubleheader Split Against East Stroudsburg

Iseminger, CalvinAberdeen, Md. — Pitt-Johnstown suffered a 4-0 loss before rebounding with an 11-2 victory to earn a doubleheader split with East Stroudsburg on Saturday afternoon at The Cal Ripken Experience.

The Mountain Cats also split the four-game set and concluded the weekend at 5-3 on the year.

Game One: East Stroudsburg 4, Pitt-Johnstown 0

Pitt-Johnstown could muster only five hits against two East Stroudsburg hurlers. Only one of those was an extra-base hit, with that coming on a double by Alex Ebeling in the fifth inning

The Warriors scored a pair of runs on three hits in the third and tacked on a run apiece in the fifth and sixth innings.

Starter Ben Tomb suffered the loss after surrendering two earned runs on four hits, with three strikeouts and four walks scattered across three innings. Roman Donis threw 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief with three strikeouts and two walks. 

Brody Roberts, Calvin Iseminger, Tyler Danko and Karson Reffner all recorded singles.

Game Two: Pitt-Johnstown 11, East Stroudsburg 2

The Mountain Cats wasted no time taking a lead that was never in jeopardy in the rematch. Roberts doubled to lead off and came around to make it 1-0 on an RBI groundout from Aaron Smearman.

Iseminger followed with an RBI single to score Zac LeGars and give the Mountain Cats a 2-0 advantage. The Mountain Cats had three runs on four hits in the third and tacked on four runs on just one hit in the fourth to extend the lead to 9-0.

Iseminger homered over the right field fence to push the lead to 11-0 in the fifth. Pitt-Johnstown finished with 10 hits, which included eight singles.

Jared Dowey picked up the win after throwing five scoreless innings, giving up just one hit with seven strikeouts compared to two walks. Riley Roskopf and Ethan Porecca each threw an inning of relief, giving up an earned run apiece. 

Pitt-Johnstown will travel to North Carolina for three days of games at the USA Baseball National Training Complex, beginning with an 11 a.m. matchup against Wilmington (DE).
