

Pitt-Johnstown struck for a pair of first inning runs and got a complete-game from
Mahlon Yonkin to improve to 3-1 with a 3-1 victory over Fayetteville State (NC) in Sunday's opener at the Triangle Classic in Raleigh, NC.

Pitt-Johnstown jumped out to a quick lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first.Â
Kylie Mettrick reach on a fielder's choice, stole second, and moved to third on
Avery Smiach's base hit to right-center. Yonkin then grounded out, but Mettrick and Smiach both came around to score on a Fayetteville State error.

Yonkin held the Broncos at bay in the circle until Fayetteville State cut the deficit in half on ZyKayah Thom's RBI single in the top of the fourth.

The Mountain Cats quickly got that run back in the bottom of the inning after Yonkin led off with a single and scored on
Isabella DePalma's double to right field.

Yonkin went on to keep Fayetteville State off the scoreboard the rest of the way to improve to 2-0 with the complete-game. Yonkin allowed one run on seven hits, while striking out five and walking one.

Yonkin also did it at the plate, going 2-for-3 with an RBI, while DePalma had an RBI double, and Smiach had a hit and an RBI. The Mountain Cats also got hits from
Gianna Surra and
Mylee Gdula.

With the loss, the Broncos dropped to 2-7.
