JOHNSTOWN, Pa. — Pitt-Johnstown could not overcome an offensive onslaught from Frostburg State in a 17-7 non-conference setback on Tuesday afternoon at Point Stadium.
The Mountain Cats slipped to 11-18 overall (2-6 PSAC).
The Bobcats pounded out four hits in the first to grab a 6-0 lead that never faded away.
Pitt-Johnstown answered with an unearned run in the first when Alex Ebeling reached on an error, advanced to second on a wild pitch and eventually scored when Calvin Iseminger beat out a potential double-play ball.
However, Frostburg State responded with six more runs on five hits in the second to extend its advantage to 12-1.
Tate Minich singled to start the second and eventually crossed home on Ebeling's two-out RBI single that cut it to 12-2.
Iseminger singled with one out in the third, moved to third on a double from Tyler Danko and scored on a passed ball. Minich lofted a sacrifice fly to center that brought home Danko to trim the deficit to 12-4.
It was the closest the Mountain Cats got to getting back into the game as the Bobcats struck for three more runs on two hits in the fourth that pushed it to 15-4.
The Mountain Cats picked up a run apiece in the sixth, eighth and ninth innings to help set the final. Ebeling's sacrifice fly in the sixth scored Jacob Cramer, who walked to lead off the inning.
Ebeling then walked to lead off the eighth and scored on a wild pitch that made it 17-6. Pinch-hitter Cade Lawrence capped the scoring with an RBI groundout that scored Stephen Rodgers.
