Noah Pawling scored both Pitt-Johnstown goals, including a first-half penalty kick in Sunday's home opener, before Georgian Court (NJ) University pulled away in the second half for a 5-2 decision at Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field.
The result drops Pitt-Johnstown to 1-1 on the young season, while Georgian Court improved to 2-0-2.
Pawling opened the scoring in the 36th minute, converting a penalty kick, to give the Mountain Cats a 1-0 lead. Georgian Court answered less than a minute later on a goal from Shermicah Moore, assisted by Nabeel Khan, to tie the match at 37:09.
Pawling struck again just before halftime, finishing off a feed from Jon-Luc Renaud in the 44th minute to put the Mountain Cats back on top, 2-1, and send the match to the break with momentum on Pitt-Johnstown's side.
Georgian Court took control in the second half, getting a pair of goals from Sander Rynning off assists from Gijs van Eif to tie the match and then take the lead in the 53rd and 58th minutes. Nabeel Khan and Leo Elder each added second-half goals for the visitors to extend the margin down the stretch.
Jordan Taylor added three shots of his own for the Mountain Cats, while Renaud's helper on Pawling's second goal gave him an assist to go with his shot attempt.
George Pasko finished with six saves, while facing 20 shots, including 11 shots on goal.
At the other end, Georgian Court's Simon Mortensen recorded two saves while allowing both Pitt-Johnstown goals.
Pitt-Johnstown will look to bounce back Wednesday, September 9, when the Mountain Cats travel to Wilmington, Del., for a 1 p.m. match against Goldey-Beacom (DE) College.
