Red-Shirt Freshman Season (2019-20)
Nate Smith shared starting duties at 157 lbs. with Jacob Burgette until an injury ended his season. Smith, a Second-Team All-PSAC selection, was 10-4 overall and 8-4 in dual meets. Smith collected seven decisions and three major decisions.
Sophomore Season (2020-21)
Due to COVID-19 limitations, Smith wrestled at the Super Region I Tournament and was the runner-up at 157 lbs. with a 2-1 record.
 Sophomore Season (2021-22)
        Smith, a First-Team All-PSAC selection had a breakout season. Smith posted a 22-7 overall record and a 12-2 record in dual meets on his way to finishing third at the Super Region I Tournament and becoming an NCAA All-American with an eighth-place finish at the National Tournament. His 22 victories tied for third on the team, while his 13 wins by decision paced the Mountain Cats and his five major decisions tied for the team lead.
