The Intramural Sports Program will prove beneficial to you personally, physically, and socially. While participating in the intramural program, you will develop qualities of cooperation, team work, a sense of fair play, and friendships that will endure throughout and beyond your years here at Pitt-Johnstown.

Sign-Up Information
There are two separate seasons of sports during each semester. Sign-ups will be at the beginning and middle of each semester. Notification of sign-ups will be posted in the Sports Center and on the website. To sign up a team, you must complete and submit a sign-up sheet to the IM office, or submit an email, to the IM Director that includes team roster, sport, team name, and list two captains with contact info. Only teams submitted before the deadline will be accepted. NOTE: AT THIS TIME AN INTRAMURAL DIRECTOR IS TBA.
Officials are responsible for ensuring fairness, enforcing rules, and supervising participants’ conduct. Each official is a vital part of the overall IM program. Officials are present at all intramural events and have final call in any game disputes. Fighting will not be tolerated. Anyone involved in a fight will be removed from the season and
The championship team for each event will receive championship apparel from the Intramural Department. However, the IM Department allows for 10-12 T-Shirts per team. If your entire organization is on the roster, or if the number of teammates on your roster surpasses 10 or 12, we will do our best to accommodate those who did participate frequently in IM events
Regulations
Each participant is responsible for the verification of their UPJ ID card whenever questioned by the intramural staff. Likewise, each team captain is responsible for the eligibility of their team members.
A player may only be listed on ONE roster per sport. Any player whom for more than one team, in a single sport will be disqualified. Any team fielding a player under an assumed name will be disqualified from all games.
Varsity Athlete Eligibility
A varsity athlete is eligible to participate in IM sports with the consent of their coach. An athlete’s coach may be contacted to confirm their position on an IM team. Particular sports may have minor exceptions to the roster rules. IE: UPJ men’s basketball players are allowed to play on a men’s 3v3 basketball IM team as long as there is only one UPJ athlete on the court at any one time, or two for a 5v5 team, and two men's soccer athletes per team in a co-ed league. This includes current and former players. This includes all varsity sports at UPJ. Exceptions may be made by the IM director.
Individual Participation
Individuals interested in participation in intramural sports that do not have a team to play on may sign up and will be placed on a team by the IM director.
Team Names
The Intramural department reserves the right to prohibit or change team names which it deems inappropriate.
Postponements & Rescheduling
Postponements due to weather conditions or poor field conditions will be made by the IM Director/ Staff or by the IM officials at game time. When Possible, postponements will be rescheduled by the IM Director. Your team will receive notification of times and dates for rescheduled games.
Rescheduling of games for other reasons is not possible due to the number of entries and the limited time/space during the season.
Roster Changes
A player may be added to a roster up until the team’s first week of play. After that, the roster is closed. Attendance may be taken randomly throughout the season and playoffs to ensure rosters are accurate.
Disciplinary Actions
A player or team found in violation of any of the following infractions will face IMMEDIATE EXPULSION FROM THE EVENT TAKING PLACE, including possible suspension from the Intramural Program and other discipline designated by the University.
Fights
Any team or individual that instigates or participates in a fight, profane or disrespectful language, or disgracing the IM staff, will be immediately suspended from the event in which the incident occurred, the team may be disqualified for the season, and further action may be taken. If an individual instigates or participates in a fight for a second time in any intramural event they will be disqualified from the Intramural program indefinitely.
Threats
Any team or individual that verbally threatens or physically tries to intimidate an official, opponent, or supervisor shall be immediately ejected from the game and faces possible suspension. Arguing with an IM staff/ official will not be tolerated and will result in ejection from the event, possible suspension, and team disqualification.
Abusing Facilities/Equipment
Intramural participants and spectators are expected to adhere to the specific rules and regulations concerning athletic facilities and equipment. Anyone defacing, abusing, or wrongly using university property, including athletic facilities or athletic equipment will be immediately ejected from the intramural game and escorted from the premises. In addition, players may receive a suspension.
Controlled Substances
Intramural participants using, being in the possession of, or being under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or any illegal substance, before or during Intramural events (held as an organized event in the athletic fields or gymnasium) shall be immediately suspended for the remainder of the year and face further punishment by the University.
Suspension Reinstatement
Any individual wishing to petition a suspension can seek reinstatement. A written request must be submitted and the IM Director will review the situation.
Liabilities and Injuries
Participation in the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown’s Intramural sports program is completely voluntary. Each individual participating in intramural activities assumes the risk of any harm or injuries caused by negligence or intentional acts occurring at or during an intramural event. Therefore, it is strongly advised that each individual have sufficient health insurance coverage.
The University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown Intramural Sports Department has gone to great lengths to make all activities as safe as possible. Please be safe, play by the rules, and have fun. Neither the Intramural department, nor UPJ Athletic Department can assume responsibility for injuries incurred while participating in the Intramural Sports program. Participants who wear corrective lenses, glasses, bracing or any other apparel or equipment, absolve UPJ for any breakage, damage, or loss. Please be sure to notify the Intramural staff working the even in which you have been injured at the time of injury.
All event rules, guidelines, and policies are subject to change at the discretion of the IM Director.
