Biography

At Pitt Johnstown

2006-07 Season
Chris led the team in scoring (17.0 ppg.) and rebounding (6.2 rpg.) on his way to being named Second Team All-WVIAC. His 65.2% (189-290) field goal percentage ranked him second in the WVIAC and third in NCAA Division II. Chris’ 74.3% (113-152) free-throw percentage and 16 blocks were third on the team, while his 27 steals were fourth. On January 27, he became the 18th Mountain Cat to reach the 1,000-point plateau and just the sixth to do it in less than four years when he scored 13 points against Columbia Union (MD) College. Chris ranks ninth on the Pitt Johnstown All-time Scoring List with 1,154 points. He also has 431 career rebounds. He led the team in scoring 12 times and rebounding 11 times. Gilliam, an All-Tournament Team selection at the Pitt-Johnstown Tip-Off Classic and Gannon Gary Miller Classic, scored in double figures 26 times and grabbed seven or more rebounds 14 times. He matched his career-high set in 2005-06 when he scored 31 points against West Liberty State (WV) College on 11/18/06 at 31 points at Mansfield University on 01/24/07. Chris also has career-highs of 13 rebounds against the University of District of Columbia on 11/19/05 and four assists at Columbia Union on 11/15/06.

2005-06 Season
Chris joined the Mountain Cat starting line-up and led the team in scoring at 18.6 points per game on his way to being named Independent Collegiate Athletic Association Co-Player of the Year. He became the third Pitt Johnstown player to lead NCAA Division II in a statistical category. Gilliam’s 68.6% (199-290) field goal percentage not only broke the Mountain Cat single-season record, but led the entire country. He finished second on the team in rebounding (6.3 rpg.), tied for third in blocks (15 blocks) and fourth in steals (30 steals). Gilliam earned MVP honors at the Gannon University Gary Miller Classic in November after scoring 47 points and pulling down 14 rebounds in two games. He was also named to the All-Tournament Team of the 2005 Pitt-Johnstown Tip-Off Classic. He led or tied for the team lead in scoring 20 times, including pacing the team in its first 11 games of the season. He scored in double-figures in 24 of 27 games and scored 20 or more points 11 times. Gilliam led the team in rebounding eight times. He also established his career-highs of 31 points at Glenville State (WV) College on 12/03/05 and 13 rebounds against the University of District of Columbia on 11/19/05.


2004-05 Season
Chris saw action in all 25 games and made an immediate impact as a true freshman. In just under 15 minutes per game, Chris averaged 6.4 points and 3.2 rebounds per game on his way to being named Independent Basketball Freshman of the Year. He finished third on the team in blocked shots (11) and fourth in rebounding (3.2 rpg.). He shot a team-high 64.8% (68-105) from the field, while converting 64.9% (24-37) from the free-throw line. Chris led or tied for the team lead in scoring two times and rebounding three times during his freshman season. He scored in double-figures six times and pulled down five or more rebounds in a game seven times. Chris tallied season highs of 14 points against Wheeling Jesuit University on 12/04/04 and eight rebounds against West Virginia Wesleyan on 01/03/05 and eight rebounds against Indiana University (PA) on 02/19/05.


At Lansdowne High School
Chris played for Head Coach Doug Goff and Pitt Johnstown basketball Alumnus Jim Book at Lansdowne High School in Baltimore, MD where he led his team to the 2A championship game of the Maryland State Playoffs in 2004 and the 2A Northern Region Championship. Chris, a three-year letterman and 2004 captain, averaged 11 points, 10 rebounds and five blocked shots as a senior. He was named First Team All-Division and Second Team All-County following his senior year. Chris, who turned down an offer to play at Fordham University in the Atlantic 10 Conference, graduated with honors.
