Biography

At Pitt-Johnstown
2021-22 Season
             John Paul Kromka’s stellar career continued as a junior when he was named a NABC All-American after leading the Mountain Cats after leading the Mountain Cats in scoring (17.5 ppg.), rebounding (8.1 rpg.), field goal percentage (67.7%), and blocks (88).  Kromka, who secured his second straight First-Team All-PSAC West honor and third consecutive PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Year honor, led the PSAC in Field Goal Percentage (67.4%), Blocks Per Game (2.90 bpg.), and Total Blocks (87).  The six-time PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Week honoree also led NCAA Division II in Total Blocks (88), and was third in Blocks Per Game (2.90), fifth in Field Goal Percentage (67.4%), and 48th in Total Rebounds (240).  Kromka, a First-Team NABC All-Atlantic choice and a Second-Team D2CCA All-Atlantic Region selection, became Pitt-Johnstown’s 32nd 1,000-point scored at Malone (OH) on Nov. 30.  He enters his senior year ranked 11th on the Mountain Cat All-Time Scoring List (1,443 points) and fourth on the All-Time Rebounding List (732 rebounds).  Kromka became a two-time First-Team Academic All-American and was named to the PSAC Winter Top-10 List for athletic and academic accomplishments for a second straight season.

Kromka has single-game highs of 28 points and 19 rebounds at California University (PA) on Feb. 16, 2019, and 28 points against East Stroudsburg on Nov. 23, 2019.  Kromka also had seven assists at Edinboro on Jan. 8, 2020 and seven assists against Clarion and blocked a career-high nine shots at Seton Hill on Feb. 23, 2022.

2020-21 Season
Despite not playing a game due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, John Paul Kromka was named First-Team CoSIDA Academic All-District II and First-Team CoSIDA Academic All-American.

2019-20 Season
Kromka, a three-time PSAC West Athlete of the Week and five-time PSAC West Defensive Player of the Week was named First-Team All-PSAC West and repeated as the PSAC West’s Defensive Athlete of the Week.  Kromka led the team in scoring (15.2 ppg.), rebounding (8.3 rpg.), field goal percentage (61.4%), free-throws made and attempted (104-139), and blocked shots (78) and was tabbed Second-Team NABC and D2CCA All-Atlantic Region.  He paced the PSAC in Field Goal Percentage, Blocks Per Game (2.52 bpg.), and Total Blocks and ranked fifth in NCAA Division II in total blocks, eighth in blocks per game, 16th in field goal percentage, and 40th in total rebounds (257).  recorded nine double-doubles in 2019-20.  Academically, Kromka earned First-Team CoSIDA Academic All-District II honors and Third-Team CoSIDA Academic All-American honors, and was named to the PSAC Winter Top-10 List.
2018-19 Season
Kromka burst onto the scene and was named Second-Team All-PSAC Western Division, PSAC West Freshman of the Year, and PSAC West Defensive Player of the Year.  The four-time PSAC West Freshman of the Week led the Mountain Cats in rebounding (7.7 rpg.), field goal percentage (63.7%), and blocked shots (76).  He was also second on the team in scoring (14.9 ppg.), assists (80), and free-throw percentage (80.3%).  Kromka led the PSAC and ranked fifth in NCAA Division II in field goal percentage, eighth in blocked shots per game (2.53), and eighth total blocks.  Kromka, who had seven double-doubles as a freshman
 

At Gateway High School
John Paul Kromka, an All-WPIAL 5A Fab 5 selection in 2017-18, comes to Pitt Johnstown from Gateway High School.  Kromka, a three-time All-Section performer in high school, led Gateway to a section championship in 2016-17.  His career average of 14.0 points per game propelled him to over 1,000 points for his career.  Kromka also averaged 13.0 rebounds and 6.0 blocks per game as a senior and was chosen to play in the Roundball Classic All-Star Game.
 
Kromka was coached by Daryn Freedman at Gateway High School, and Joe Hohman, a life-long coach.  He is the son of Joe and Suzanne Kromka of Monroeville, Pa.

Kromka is majoring in Mechanical Engineering.
