2007-08 Season
Matt averaged 7.7 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists in his first year as a starter. He also earned the George Springer Individual Sportsmanship Award at the 2008 WVIAC Tournament. His 3.1 rebounds, 77 assists, 26 three-point field goals and 24 steals all ranked fourth on the team. Matt’s 50.0% (95-190) shooting from the field led Coach Rukavina’s guards. He also shot 38.2% (26-68) from three-point range. Matt scored in double figures 11 times, pulled down four or more rebounds 14 times and dished out three or more assists 13 times. In three seasons, Matt has recorded career-highs of 18 points against California University (PA) on Dec. 3, 2007 and 18 points against West Liberty State (WV) College on Feb. 11, 2008. He also pulled down eight rebounds at Ohio Valley (WV) University on Feb. 14, 20088 and collected 10 assists against West Liberty State on Feb. 11, 2008.
2006-07 Season
Matt provided a spark from the outside off the Mountain Cat bench. In 29 games played, he averaged 4.3 points, 2.1 rebounds and one assist per game. Matt shot 43.6% (48-110) from the field, 32.7% (18-55) from behind the three-point line and 73.3% (11-15) from the free-throw line. His 18 three-pointers ranked fourth on the team. He scored in double-figures five times, pulled down three or more rebounds 10 times and dished out two or more assists nine times. In two seasons, Matt recorded season-highs of 14 points and six rebounds against Penn State-New Kensington on Jan. 15, 2007 and four assists against Penn State-Greater Allegheny on Jan. 30, 2007.
2005-06 Season
In 17 games (eight minutes per game) played, Matt averaged 2.3 points and 1.4 rebounds per game. He also added eight assists and nine steals. Matt shot 31.8% (14-44) from the field, 38.9% (7-18) from behind the three-point line and 66.7% (4-6) from the free-throw line. Matt recorded season-highs of 12 points against the University of District of Columbia on Nov. 19, 2005, four rebounds against Columbia Union (MD) College on Jan. 7, 2006 and three assists against Penn State-Harrisburg on Dec. 9, 2005.
At Penn Hills High School
Matt was a four-year letterman and two-year team captain for head coach Jim Rocco at Penn Hills High School. Matt averaged 18 points, eight rebounds and 4.5 assists per game as a senior, leading Penn Hills to the 2004 Pennsylvania AAAA State Championship. He also led his team to two Section Championships and a WPIAL title. Matt, who scored over 1,300 points and pulled down over 800 rebounds in his high school career, was named All-WPIAL, All-Section and All-East Fab 5 following the 2003-04 season. In addition, he was selected to play in the 2004 Pittsburgh Hoops Classic and the Pittsburgh vs. Canada All-Star Game. Matt was a member of Who’s Who Among High School Students and Who’s Who in Sports. Matt also played tight end on the Penn Hills football team.
