#11 Wrestlers Dominate #20 East Stroudsburg, 34-6
12/04/12... (Results) Evan Link (Cresson, Pa.) and Glenn Winslow (Patton, Pa.) opened the match with first period pins to help the 11th-ranked Mountain Cat wrestlers race out to an 18-0 lead after four bouts on their way to a 34-6 victory over 20th-ranked East Stroudsburg University in Pitt-Johnstown's 2012-13 home opener, Tuesday night in the Sports Center. The Mountain Cats evened their dual meet record at 2-2.
Pitt-Johnstown pounced on the Warriors early and never looked back. Link pinned Nick Kaiser at 2:37 to open the match at 125 lbs., before Winslow followed by pinning Devin Holmes at 2:40.
Dave Cawley (Pittsburgh, Pa.) (141 lbs.) and All-American Jack Bachman (Greensburg, Pa.) (149 lbs.) each won by decision to increase the Pitt-Johnstown lead to 18-0.
East Stroudsburg got on the scoreboard and cut it to 18-3 midway through the the match with fourth-ranked Braden Turner's 2-0 decision over Joel Paolo (Weirton, WV) at 157 lbs.
Keith Ryan (Shirleysburg, Pa.) responded at 165 lbs. for Pitt-Johnstown by defeating Colin Martucci, 10-4, before Pitt-Johnstown put the match away when 2012 National Qualifier Gary Lantz (Delta, Pa.) won by injury default over sixth-ranked Brendan MeKeown at 174 lbs.
Leading 27-3 with three matches remaining, All-American Travis McKillop (Lower Burrell, Pa.) scored a 13-3 major decision over Luke DeLuise at 184 to push it out to 31-3.
A decision win by the Warriors at 197 lbs. made it 31-6, but Pitt-Johnstown freshman Josh Duplin (Johnstown, Pa.) picked-up his first collegiate dual meet win and closed out the match with a 4-0 victory over Joe Blaes at 285 lbs.
With the loss, East Stroudsburg slipped to 1-1.
The Mouuntain Cats will recognize Caoch Peocra's 500th career victory prior to hosting Ohio Valley (WV) University on Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Sports Center. Pitt-Johnstown will then break for the holidays, before traveling to the Wilkes Open on December 28.
