Mountain Cats Open National Independent Tournament With Loss to Georgia Southwestern

Sophomore center Kyle Goldcamp (Pittsburgh, Pa.) led three Mountain Cats who scored in double figures with 15 points, but it wasn't enough, as Pitt Johnstown suffered a 70-61 loss Sunday night in the First Round of the Fourth Annual National Independent Tournament in Fort Myers, FL. The Mountain Cats are now 19-9.
Goldcamp, who was 6-8 from the field and 3-5 from the free-throw line, pulled down three rebounds and blocked two shots, while sophomore forward Marcus Tullis (Johnstown, Pa.) and sophomore guard Quinton Davis (Pittsburgh, Pa.) added 13 and 12 points, respectively to round out the double figure scorers. Davis grabbed seven rebounds and Tullis grabbed down five rebounds. Head Coach Bob Rukavina also got eight points, four rebounds and five assists from senior guard Dwight Hines (Aliquippa, Pa.) and seven points and seven rebounds from junior forward Chris Gilliam (Baltimore, MD). J.J. Schumacher (Castle Shannon, Pa.) chipped in six points, a pair of rebounds and a game-high seven assists in the loss.
The Mountain Cats trailed 39-32 at halftime and 59-46 with 7:54 to play, before cutting the lead to six points on four occasions. However, Pitt Johnstown was never able to get any closer and suffered the nine-point loss.
Pitt Johnstown shot 45.8% (22-48) from the field, 31.6% (6-19) from three-point range and 68.8% (11-16) from the free-throw line, while Georgia Southwestern ended the night shooting 24-50 (48.0%) from the field, 7-15 (46.7%) from behind the three-point line and 15-21 (71.4%) from the free-throw line. The Mountain Cats out rebounded the Hurricanes, 32-25, but turned the ball over 20 times, compared to just 13 turnovers for Georgia Southwestern.
Norbey Aragon poured in a game-high 22 points to lead Georgia Southwestern. Adrian Robinson (17 points) and Shawn King (14 points) also scored in double figures. Sean Cowley added seven points and a game-high nien rebounds for the Hurricanes, now 14-12 on the year.
The Mountain Cats continue playing in the National Independent Tournament in Fort Myers, FL on Monday when they take on the loser of theCentral State (OH) University-Palm Beach Atlantic (FL) University game at 1:00 p.m.
