Men's Basketball Defeats Palm Beach Atlantic, 86-71, at National Independent Tournament

Junior forward Chris Gilliam (Baltimore, MD) poured in a game-high 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds, and sophomore guard Quinton Davis (Pittsburgh,Pa.) added a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds on Monday to lead Pitt Johnstown to an 86-71 win over Palm Beach Atlantic (FL) University in the consolation bracket of the National Invitational Tournament in Fort Myers, FL. Head Coach Bob Rukavina's team improved to 20-9 to mark the second straight 20-win season.
Pitt Johnstown will take on the University of the District of Columbia in Tuesday's Fifth Place game at 3:00 p.m.

The Mountain Cats built a 10-point halftime lead, but Palm Beach Atlantic battled back to cut the lead to four points with 10:00 minutes to play. However, the Mountain Cats climbed back into a 10-point lead with five minutes to play and hit their free-throws down the stretch to secure the double-digit victory.
In all, five Pitt Johnstown players scored in double figures in the win over the Sailfish. Along with Gilliam and Davis, Kyle Goldcamp (Pittsburgh, Pa.) scored 16 points and had five rebounds, and Marcus Tullis (Johnstown, Pa.) chipeed in 15 points and five rebounds. Senior guard Dwight Hines (Aliquippa, Pa.) rounded out the double-figure scorers with 11 points, while J.J. Schumacher (Castle Shannon, Pa.) dished out a game-high eight assists.
With his 23 points, Gilliam jumped past Hines and moved into 10th place on the Mountain Cat All-Time Scoring List with 1,142 career points. Gilliam is now five points shy of Don Elzer (1973-77) for ninth place on the scoring list. Hines is now in 11th place on the scoring list with 1,133 points.
Pitt Johnstown shot the ball very well and held a large advantage on the glass. Pitt Johnstown finished the game shooting 60.0% from the field, while holding Palm Beach Atlantic to just 38% shooting from the field. The Mountain Cats also out rebounded the Sailfish, 47-26.
Derek Barnes 22 points, including six three-pointers, and Sean Tucker's 19 points led the way for the Sailfish, who ended the season with a 3-27 oveall record.
