Lady Cats Shoot 65.3% in 83-68 Win Over West Virginia Wesleyan

Senior guard Allison Krischer (Johnstown, Pa.) scored a game-high 28 points to lead a Lady Cat team that shot a season-best 65.3% from the field to an 83-68 win over West Virginia Wesleyan College, Monday evening in the Sports Center. With the victory, Head Coach Jodi Gault's Lady Cats have won five straight games and 12 of their last 13 games to improve to 15-4.
Krischer wrapped up her night 10-11 from the field, 5-5 from three-point range and 3-3 from the free-throw line to pace four Pitt Johnstown players who scored in double figures. Senior forward Jessica Zapf (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was 5-8 from the field and 6-6 from the free-throw line for 16 points, while red-shirt sophomore forward Krista Britcher (Johnstown, Pa.) collected career-highs of 15 points (7-8 field goals) and eight rebounds. Senior guard Chelsea McKinney (St. Petersburg, Pa.) rounded out the Lady Cats who scored in double figures with 10 points. Zapf also grabbed seven rebounds and dished out a career-high seven assists, and McKinney pulled three rebounds and had six assists in the victory.
With her 16 points, Zapf moved into 20th place on the Lady Cat All-Time Scoring List with 1,138 points. She is 10 points away from Pat Wajers (1976-80) for 19th place on the list. Krischer jumped four spots to 22nd place on the scoring list. Krischer, who has 1,071 career points, is 64 points shy of Carol Mumma (1978-82) for 21st place.
Pitt Johnstown climbed out to a 36-25 lead with 5:44 to play in the first half, before taking a 43-37 halftime lead. The Lady Cats increased that lead to 21 points with 7:00 to play and never let West Virginia Wesleyan get closer than 12 points, before taking the 15-point win.
The Lady Cats finished the night shooting 32-49 (65.3%) from the field, 6-10 (60.0%) from behind the three-point line and 13-14 (92.9%) from the free-throw line. Pitt Johnstown held the Bobcats to 40.4% (23-57) shooting from the field and 46.2 (12-26) from three-point range. West Virginia Wesleyan, which was out rebounded 29-23, was also 10-12 (83.3%) from the free-throw line.
Sarah Grabb scored 19 points, including five three-pointers, to lead four Bobcats who scored in double figures. Lucia Darling, 6-9 from the field and 5-8 from three-point range, added 17 points, while Sarah Van Horn (11 points) and Brandi Wynn (10 points) also scored in double figures for West Virginia Wesleyan. Van Horn pulled down a game-high nine rebounds for the Bobcats, who fell to 6-13 on the season.
The Lady Cats host California University (PA) on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. in the Sports Center, before traveling to Ashland (OH) University on Saturday.
