Women's Basketball Suffers 74-60 Loss to California PA

Senior guard Allison Krischer (Johnstown, Pa.) poured in a game-high 20 points, but the Lady Cat basketball team, ranked #7 in the East Region, was unable to fully recover from a 17-point deficit in the first half and suffered a 74-60 loss to East Region #10 California University (PA), Wednesday evening in the Sports Center. With the loss, the Lady Cats' five game winning streak was snapped and they fell to 15-5.
The Vulcans jumped out to a 27-10 lead 10 minutes into the game, before Pitt Johnstown cut the lead to 31-25 with 3:37 to play in the half. California (PA) evenutally took a 38-29 halftime lead. The Lady Cats came out on a 9-2 run in the second half to cut the lead to 40-38, but the Vulcans answered with a 20-9 run to increase the lead to 60-47 with 5:14 to play, before going on to the 14-point victory.
Krischer, ranked 22nd on the Lady Cat All-Time Scoring List with 1,091 points, finished with 20 points on 7-17 shooting from the field and 5-6 from the free-throw line. Krischer also made five steals for the Lady Cats. Senior forward Jessica Zapf (Pittsburgh, Pa.) added 17 points on 7-14 shooting and pulled down a team-high eight rebounds . Senior forward Jami Oaks (South Fork, Pa.) scored six points off of Head Coach Jodi Gault's bench, while red-shirt junior forward Sarah Priest (Johnstown, Pa.) grabbed five rebounds.
With her 17 points and eight rebounds, Zapf ranks 19th on the scoring list with 1,155 points and sixth on Lady Cat All-Time Rebounding List with 785 career rebounds.
Pitt Johnstown shot 40.3% (25-62) from the field, 22.2% (2-9) from three-point range and 66.7% (8-12) from the free-throw line, while the Vulcans finished 31-62 (50.0%) from the field and 4-13 (30.8%) from behind the three-point line. California (PA) also connected on 8-11 (72.7%) from the free-throw line. The Vulcans out rebounded the Lady Cats 44-28, including holding a 15-9 advantage on the offensive end.
Bre Dillion's 18 points led a scoring attack that saw all five Vulcan starters score in double figures. Lindsay Johnson (17 points), April Smith (14 points), Dani Mills (11 points) and Brooque Williams (10 points) also scored in double figures. Smith's game-high 14 rebounds paced California (PA), which improved to 15-7 on the season.
The Lady Cats travel to Ashland (OH) University on Saturday, before returning home to host Edinboro University on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. and the University of the District of Columbia on Friday, February 16 at 6:00 p.m.
