Lady Cats Earn 73-65 Home Win Over Edinboro

Head Coach Jodi Gault's Lady Cats improved to 16-6 on the season with a 73-65 home win over Edinboro Unviersity Sunday afternoon in the Sports Center. Senior guard Allison Krischer (Johnstown, Pa.) and senior forward Jessica Zapf (Pittsburgh, Pa.) scored 22 and 20 points, respectively to lead Pitt Johnstown in a game that featured 10 ties and 11 lead changes.
Edinboro built a nine-point first half lead, but the Lady Cats came back to take a 28-26 halftime lead. The Fighting Scots regained the lead with 16:51 to play and held that lead until Pitt Johnstown's Krista Britcher (Johnstown, Pa.) hit a short jumper to give the Lady Cats a 57-55 lead with 5:04 to play. Pitt Johnstown never gave up the lead and went on to the eight-point victory.
Krischer wrapped up the day with 22 points on 5-11 shooting from the field, 3-4 from behind the three-point line and 9-10 from the free-throw line, while Zapf had 20 points on 7-11 shooting and 6-8 from the free-throw line. Zapf also grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds. Coach Gault got 14 points and four rebounds off the bench from senior forward Jami Oaks (South Fork, Pa.) and five points, seven rebounds and three assists from sophomore forward Lindsay Cale (Hummelstown, Pa.).
With her 20 points Zapf moved into 16th place on the Lady Cat All-Time Scoring List with 1,202 points. She is also ranked sixth on the All-Time Rebounding List with 807 career rebounds, while Krischer stands in 22nd place on the scoring list with 1,130 carrer points.
Pitt Johnstown finished 46.7% (21-45) shooting from the field and 75.0% (6-8) from three-point range, while holding Edinboro to 25-56 (44.6%) from the field and 5-21 (23.8%) from behind the three-point line. Pitt Johnstown also connected on 25 of its 30 free-throws. The Fighting Scots were 10-13 from the free-throw line. The Lady Cats out rebounded Edinboro 36-23, including holding a 13-9 advantage on the offensive end.
Edinboro's Kelly Calderone led all scorers with 30 points. Samantha Reimer scored 14 points and Kelsey Conklin added 10 points and six rebounds for the Fighting Scots, who dropped to 13-12 on the year.
The Lady Cats travel to Shepherd (WV) Universtiy on Monday, Lock Haven University on Wednesday and St. Andrews (NC) Presbyterian on Saturday. Pitt Johnstown will return home to host Columbia Union (MD) College and celebrate Senior Night on Tuersday, February 27 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sports Center.
