Lady Cats Earn 67-59 Win at Lock Haven

Senior forward Jami Oaks (South Fork, Pa.) scored a career-high 24 points and Jessica Zapf (Pittsburgh, Pa.) added 18 points to lead Head Coach Jodi Gault's Lady Cats, ranked #8 in this week's East Region poll, to a 67-59 win at Lock Haven University, Wednesday evening. With the win, Pitt Johnstown improved to 17-7.
Oaks ended 8-16 from the field, 2-4 from three-point range and 6-6 from the free-throw line. Oaks also pulled down five rebounds, while Zapf was 4-6 from the field and 10-10 from the free-throw line. Zapf pulled down a team-high nine rebounds. Coach Gault also got eight points and seven rebounds from forward Sarah Priest (Johnstown, Pa.) and eight points from Lindsay Cale (Hummelstown, Pa.).
With her 18 points, Zapf moved to within five points of Maureen Latterner (1981-85) for 14th place on the Lady Cat All-time Scoring List. Zapf now has 1,232 career points.
Pitt Johnstown took a slim, 27-26, halftime lead, before coming out in the second half and opening a pair of 12-point leads with the second coming off of a pair of free-throws by Chlesea McKinney (St. Petersburg, Pa.) with 6:21 to play. Lock Haven cut the lead to 63-59 with :16 to play, but Zapf and Oaks connected on four straight free-throws to seal the victory.
The Lady Cats, who overcame 25 turnovers, got the job done at the free-throw line by hitting 21 of their 23 free-throws for 91.3%. Pitt Johnstown shot 48.9% (22-45), while holding the Lady Eagles to just 23-66 (34.8%) from the field and 4-14 (28.6%) from three-point range. Lock Haven was also 9-12 (75.0%) from the free-throw line.
Elizabeth Gabriel's 18 points led four Lock Haven players who scored in double figures. Ilia Lopez (12 points) Kristen Kudrick (11 points) and Lauren Kelshaw (10 points) also scored in double figures. Ginger Williams pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds for the Lady Eagles, who fell to 11-15 on the season.
The Lady Cats travel to East Region #6 St. Andrews (NC) Presbyterian College on Saturday, before returning home to host Columbia Union (MD) College and celebrating Senior Night on Tuesday, February 27 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sports Center.
