Lady Cats Defeat at East Region #6 St. Andrews Presbyterian, 51-50

Senior forward Jessica Zapf (Pittsburgh, Pa.) hit a lay-up and a free-throw with :05 left to play to help the Lady Cats erase a two-point deficit and earn a 51-50 win over East region #6 St. Andrews Presbyterian (NC) College, Saturday afternoon. Head coach Jodi Gault's Pitt Johnstown team, ranked #8 in the region, improved to 18-7 on the season.
St. Andrews took a 25-21 halftime lead and increased the lead to seven points with 8:37 to play. The Lady Knights held on to a 48-43 lead with 2:05 left in the game, but Pitt Johnstown continued to battle and was able to pull off the one-point victory.
Zapf , who sat much of the second half with four fouls, finished with 15 points and four rebounds, while senior forward Jami Oaks (South Fork, Pa.) poured in a game-high 20 points on 8-14 shooting from the field, 2-5 from three-point range and 2-3 from the free-throw line. Oaks also pulled down six rebounds. Red-shirt junior forward Sarah Priest (Johnstown, Pa.) grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds. Sophomore forward Lindsay Cale (Hummelstown, Pa.) scored six points and senior guards Allison Krischer (Johnstown, Pa.) and Chelsea McKinney (St. Petersburg, Pa.) each chipped in five point to account for the rest of the Pitt Johnstown scoring.
With her 15 points, Zapf jumped two into 13th place on the Lady Cat All-time Scoring List. Zapf now has 1,247 career points. She is also ranked sixth on the All-Time Rebounding list with 824 rebounds, while Krischer stands in 21st place on the scoring list with 1,143 points.
Both teams struggled shooting from the field. The Lady Cats finished at 37.7% (20-53) from the field and 25.0% (3-12) from behind the three-point line, while St. Andrews shot just 32.3% (21-65) from the field and 12.5% (2-16) from three-point range. Pitt Johnstown connected on 8-13 (61.5%) from the free-throw line. The Lady Knights were 6-10 (60.0%) from the free-throw line.
Danielle Norman led St. Andrews with 15 points and 10 rebounds. April Johnson chipped in seven points and eight rebounds for the Lady Knights, who slipped to 19-8 on on the year.
The Lady Cats return home to host Columbia Union (MD) College and celebrate Senior Night on Tuesday, at 6:00 p.m. in the Sports Center, before wrapping up the 2006-07 regular season at home on Wednesday against the University of the District of Columbia. Tip-off for the U.D.C. game is 6:00 p.m.
