Lady Cats Fall to Host, 81-59, at Clarion Classic

Lady Cat junior forward Kristin Irwin (Bellefonte, Pa.) collected career-highs of 19 points and 13 rebounds, but it wasn't enough, as Pitt Johnstown suffered an 81-59 loss to the hosts in Saturday final round of the 2007 Clarion University Classic. The Lady Cats are now 1-1.
The Lady Cats built an eight-point first half lead, but Clarion clawed its way back to take a slim, 38-36, halftime lead. The Golden Eagles went on a 12-2 run to start the second half to open the second half and cruised to the 22-point win.
Irwin was 6-15 from the field, 3-6 from behind the three-point line and 4-5 from the free-throw line to lead Pitt Johnstown. Head Coach Sasha Palmer also got 10 points and six rebounds from junior forward Krista Britcher (Johnstown, Pa.) and nine points from senior Jill Maurer (Johnstown, Pa.). Freshman Sheena Aden (Sandy Lake, Pa.) scored eight points and Chrissy Forster (Lewisberry, Pa.) chipped in six points in the loss.
After shooting 47.8% in the first half, the Lady Cats struggle to just 20.6% shooting in the second half, while Clarion improved it 46.7% first half shooting to 56.7% in the second half. Pitt Johnstown out rebounded the Golden Eagles, 40-32.
Ashley Grimm's 18 points led five Clarion players who scored in double-figures. Sara Pratt and Janelle Zabresky each pulled down nine rebounds to lead the Golden Eagles, who improved to 2-0.
The Lady Cats travel to Shippensburg University on Sunday and to Seton Hill University on November 28 to open the WVIAC schedule, before making their 2007-08 home debut against WVIAC rival Ohio Valley (WV) University on Tuesday, December 4 at 5:30 p.m. in the Sports Center.
