Lady Cats Celebrate Senior Night With 88-42 Victor Over Columbia Union

The Pitt Johnstown Lady Cats honored four seniors on Tuesday in the Sports Center, before handing Columbia Union (MD) College an 88-42 loss. Senior forward Jessica Zapf (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and sophomore guard Lindsay Cale (Hummelstown, Pa.) led five Lady Cats who scored in double figures with 17 points each. Head Coach Jodi Gault's Lady Cats improve to 19-7 on the year.
Prior to the game, Coach Gault and the Lady Cat basketball program recognized seniors Allison Krischer (Johnstown, Pa.), Chelsea McKinney (St. Petersburg, Pa.), Jami Oaks (South Fork, Pa.) and Zapf.
Zapf's 17 points came on 7-12 shooting from the field and 3-3 from the free-throw line. Zapf also pulled down seven rebounds and made four steals. Cale finished the night 7-10 from the field, 3-6 from the free-throw line with a game-high six steals. Coach Gault also got 12 points and seven rebounds from Oaks, a career-high 11 points from sophomore guard Lindsey McCombie (Nicktown, Pa.) and 10 points from sophomore forward Jill Maurer (Johnstown, Pa.). Sophomore forward Kristin Irwin (Bellefonte, Pa.) added eight points and Krischer chipped in seven points in the victory.
With her 17 points, Zapf stands in 13th place on the Lady Cat All-Time Scoring List with 1,264 points and sixth on the All-Time Rebounding List with 831 career rebounds. Zapf is now two rebounds shy of Sue Brown (1977-81) for fifth place on the rebounding list. Krischer jumped one spot into 20th place on the scoring list. She currently has 1,150 points.
After a sluggish start, Pitt Johnstown got things rolling and took a 42-18 halftime lead. The Lady Cats continued to build on the lead in the second half, increasing it to 41 points with 8:48 to play, before going on to the 46-point win.
The Lady Cats dominated in every aspect of the game. Pitt Johnstown shot 46.3% (38-82) from the field, while holding Columbia Union to just 28.3% (15-53) shooting. Pitt Johnstown forced 32 turnovers and converted them into 35 points. The Lady Cats also outscored the Pioneers 32-6 in the paint and held an 18-6 advantage in second-chance points.
Jeaneen White and Noriko Sato each scored 11 points to lead Columbia Union. Rebecca Breyer scored nine points and pulled down seven rebounds for the Pioneers, now 1-28 on the season.
The Lady Cats will wrap up the 2006-07 regular season on Wednesday when the University of the District of Columbia visits the Sports Center for a 6:00 p.m. tip-off. This game was originally scheduled for February 16, but was postponed due to a snowstorm.
