01/14/2010

Sheena Aden (Sandy Lake, Pa.) scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds, but Davis & Elkins (WV) College used a 22-8 run over the final 11 minutes of the first half to break open a two-point game and hand the Lady Cats a 64-52 WVIAC road loss on Thursday. Pitt-Johnstown fell to 6-5 overall and 3-3 in the WVIAC.
The Senators opened-up a 5-2 lead three minutes into the game, before Aden gave the Lady Cats their only lead of the game at 6-5 with a pair of free-throws at 13:43.
Davis & Elkins then pushed the lead to 15-11 until Monae Baker's (Bushkill, Pa.) lay-up cut the deficit to 15-13 with 10:55 remaining in the half.
That was as close as Pitt-Johnstown would get. The Senators outscored the Lady Cats 22-8 the rest of the way to take a 37-21 lead into the halftime break.
Davis & Elkins held a double-digit lead most of the second half and took its largest lead of the game at 50-32 on Shalisa Hill's basket with 12:02 left.
The Lady Cats answered to get back into the game with a 12-0 run over the next three minutes, capped by Aden's lay-up at 7:50 to pull Pitt-Johnstown to within 50-45.
The Senators quickly extended the lead back to 11 points on Page Turner's free-throw 5:14 later. A Maria Montini (Irwin, Pa.) three-pointer cut the lead to 59-52 with just over a minute to play, but the Senators held on for the 12-point victory.
The Lady Cats, who were out-rebounded 53-37, including 28-14 on the offensive end, shot 35.6% for the game, but just 2-16 from three-point range. Davis & Elkins hit 7-20 from behind the three-point line and ended the night shooting 36.8% from the field.
Aden led the Lady Cats with 15 points on 6-15 shooting from the field and 3-3 from the free-throw line, while Montini added 10 points, including two three-pointers, to account for the only other Pitt-Johnstown player to score in double-figures. Kayla Loughner (Brinklow, MD) and Baker chipped in eight and six points, respectively, while Qiuana Brown (Monroeville, Pa.) (6 rebounds) and Katie McBroom (Derry, Pa.) (5 rebounds) combined to pulled down 11 rebounds.
Hill scored a game-high 18 points and had six rebounds, and Keri Dennison collected 12 points to lead the Senators to their fourth straight win. Davis & Elkins improved to 7-3 overall and 4-2 in conference play.
