Lady Cats Fall 70-51 in WVIAC Opener at Seton Hill

The Lady Cat basketball team wasn't able to overcome a 23-point halftime deficit and suffered a 70-51 loss in the program's first ever WVIAC conference game at Seton Hill University on Wednesday. Junior forward Lindsay Cale (Hummelstown, Pa.) scored a game-high 18 points to lead Pitt Johnstown, which fell to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in the WVIAC.
Turnovers once again hurt Pitt Johnstown. The Lady Cats turned the ball over 15 times in the first half and trailed 41-18 at halftime. Pitt Johnstown committed just six second half turnovers, but was unable to overcome the large deficit and suffered the 19-point loss.
Cale shot 6-10 from the field and 6-6 from the free-throw line. Cale also grabbed three rebounds and made a game-high seven steals to lead the Lady Cats, while red-shirt junior forward Krista Britcher (Johnstown, Pa.) collected 15 points and a team-high seven rebounds off of Head Coach Sasha Palmer's bench. Sophomore guard Kaitlin Urban (Johnstown, Pa.) finished with eight points, including a pair of three-pointers, and red-shirt freshman forward Qiuana Brown (Monroeville, Pa.) added five points and three rebounds. Junior forward Kristin Irwin (Bellefonte, Pa.) grabbed five rebounds in the loss.
The Lady Cats shot 42.9% (18-42) from the field , but struggled from three-point range, hitting just 2-9, while the Griffins ended the night shooting 35.2% from the field and 38.9% (7-18) from behind the three-point line. Pitt Johnstown was 13-19 (68.4%) from the free-throw line. Seton Hill hit 25 of their 31 free-throws.
The Griffins took advantage of Pitt Johnstown's 21 turnovers by converting them into 23 points. The Griffins also out rebounded the Lady Cats, 39-26, and held a 15-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. Seton Hill was able to turn those offensive rebounds into 15 second-chance points.
Katie Lintner's 16 points and eight rebounds led the way for Seton Hill. Erika Haitz scored 14 points and had a game-high 14 rebounds, and Orit Farchi chipped in 13 points to help the Griffins improve to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in WVIAC play.
The Lady Cats will make their 2007-08 home debut against conference rival Ohio Valley (WV) University on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in the Sports Center.
