Strong Second Half Leads Lady Cats Over Alderson-Broaddus

Andrea Dalton (Washington, Pa.) scored 21 points and Sheena Aden (Sandy Lake, Pa.) and Monae Baker (Bushkill, Pa.) added 18 points apiece to help the Lady Cats outscore Alderson-Broaddus (WV) College 40-23 in the second half to erase a three-point halftime deficit and earn a 75-61 WVIAC victory, Saturday afternoon in the Sports Center.
Alderson-Broaddus climbed out to a 13-6 lead 4:32 into the game on Amanda Harris' three-pointer. The Lady Cats scored the next seven points to to tie the score at 13, before two of Sheena Aden's (Sandy Lake, Pa.) 12 first-half points gave Pitt-Johnstown a 17-15 lead with 11:26 remaining.
The Lady Cats kept the momentum and extended the run to 12-4 to build the lead to 25-17 on Kelly Goode's (Pleasant Plain, OH) lay-up 2:09 later.
The Battlers fought their way back with a 21-8 run over the next eight minutes, capped by Harris' bucket at 1:16, to erase the deficit and retake the lead 38-33, before going into halftime with a 38-35 advantage.
Harris' third three-pointer of the game pushed Alderson-Broaddus' lead to 41-35 to open the second half, but the Lady Cats outscored the Battlers 16-4 over the next five minutes to go up 51-45 on Andrea Dalton's (Washington, Pa.) three-pointer.
Monae Baker's (Bushkill, Pa.) hit a three-pointer with 10:08 to play to extend Pitt-Johnstown's lead to 60-51. The Battlers cut the deficit to 60-55 on another Harris basket, but it never got any closer.
Dalton's lay-up at 3:25 made it 69-59, and a pair of Sara Trimarco (Hollidaysburg, Pa.) free-throws gave the Lady Cats their largest lead of the game at 75-59 with just under a minute to play.
Despite being out-rebounded 41-32, the Lady Cats forced 24 turnovers, while committing just 11. Pitt-Johnstown also hit 24-31 from the free-throw line, compared to just 8-9 for the Battlers.
Dalton scored a game-high 21 points on 7-16 shooting from the floor, 1-4 from three-point range and a perfect 6-6 from the free-throw line. Dalton also paced Pitt-Johnstown with with eight rebounds, while Aden and Baker each finished with 18 points and five rebounds. Kayla Loughner (Brinklow, MD) scored five points, and Trimarco dished out a team-high six assists.
Tori Charley led Alderson-Broaddus with 17 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Harris had 15 points and Caitlyn Brown chipped in 14 points for the Battles, who dropped to 4-7 overall and 2-4 in the WVIAC.
The Lady Cats will host a WVIAC doubleheader with the Mountain Cats against Shepherd (WV) University on Monday. The Lady Cats will tip-off at 5:30 p.m., with the men's game at 7:30 p.m.
