Lady Cats Dealt 70-41 Home Loss by #5 IUP

Indiana University (PA), ranked #5 in the most recent ESPN the Magazine/WBCA Division II rankings, jumped out to a 36-16 halftime lead and dealt Head Coach Sasha Palmer's Lady Cats a 70-41 loss, Wednesday evening in the Sports Center. Lindsay Cale's (Hummelstown, Pa.) 15 points led Pitt Johnstown, which dropped to 2-6 on the season.
The Lady Cats, who shot just 19.2% in the first half, fell behind 23-6 with 7:39 to play in the first half. The Crimson Hawks increased the lead to 20 points at halftime, before coming out in the second half and extending the lead to 70-35 with just over three minutes to play.
Cale led the way for Pitt Johnstown with 15 points (5-5 free-throws) and five rebounds. Senior forward Jill Maurer (Johnstown, Pa.) added eight points and five rebounds, and Kristin Irwin (Bellefonte, Pa.) scored five points, grabbed a team-high six rebounds and dished out four assists. Junior guard Chrissy Forster (Lewisberry, Pa.) pulled down five rebounds in a losing cause for the Lady Cats.
After shooting 19.2% in the first half, Pitt Johnstown improved to 35.7% in the second half, to finish the game at 27.8% (15-54). Pitt Johnstown was also just 2-13 (15.4%) from three-point range. The Lady Cats did hit nine of their 13 free-throws. The Crimson Hawks shot 42.9% (27-63) from the field, 10-24 (41.7%) from behind the three-point line and 6-10 (60.0%) from the free-throw line. IUP out-rebounded Pitt Johnstown 46-34.
Jahzinga Tracey led IUP with 16 points and eight rebounds. Kylie Miller had 15 points and a game-high 11 rebounds, while Hillary Shope scored 14 points for the Crimson Hawks, who improved to 11-1 on the year.
The Lady Cats will host Shepherd (WV) University as past of a WVIAC doubleheader with the Mountain Cats on Saturday. Tip-off of the women's game is set for 5:30 p.m. Pitt Johnstown will also host Tiffin (OH) University on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. in the Sports Center.
