Lady Cats Fall, 80-58, to Shepherd in WVIAC Action

Krista Britcher (Johnstown, Pa.) scored 11 points off of Head Coach Sasha Palmer's bench, but Shepherd (WV) University climbed out to 40-27 halftime lead en route to an 80-58 win over the Lady Cats in a WVIAC conference game, Saturday afternoon in the Sports Center. Pitt Johnstown is now 2-7 overall and 1-2 in the WVIAC.
The Rams opened up a 19-6 lead at the 11:30 mark of the first half, before taking a 13-point halftime lead. Shepherd took advantage of 31 Lady Cat turnovers and continued to build on the lead in the second half, increasing it to 32 points with 6:48 to play, before earning the 22-point victory.
Britcher finished the day with 11 points on 4-9 shooting from the field and 3-4 from the free-throw line. Freshman Sheena Aden (Sandy Lake, Pa.) was the only other Lady Cat to score in double figures. Aden ended with 10 points, three rebounds and three steals. Sophomore guard Chrissy Forster (Lewisberry, Pa.) scored nine points, while Lindsay Cale (Hummelstown, Pa.) added eight points and a team-high five rebounds. Jill Maurer (Johnstown, Pa.) and Kristin Irwin (Bellefonte, Pa.) each chipped in six points and four rebounds.
Shepherd turned the 31 Lady Cat turnovers into 39 points and held a 42-32 advantage in points in the paint.
The Lady Cats shot 44.9% (22-49) from the field, 44.4% (4-9) from three-point range and 76.9% (10-13) from the free-throw line. Shepherd made 33 of its 66 shots and 11 of its 18 free-throws. The Rams also out-rebounded Pitt Johnstown, 36-30, including holding a 17-10 advantage on offensive end.
Krissy Grosselin's 15 points led four Shepherd players who scored in double figures. Laura Harkins and Jerica Hewett scored 12 points apiece, and Nylia Zamora had 10 points to round out the double figure scorers. Colleen Shumaker tallied seven points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds to help the Rams improve to 5-4 overall and 2-1 in the WVIAC.
Pitt Johnstown will host Tiffin (OH) University on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m., before traveling to Fairmont State (WV) University on Thursday and West Virginia Wesleyan College on Saturday for a pair of WVIAC conference games.
