Baker's 31 Points Lead Lady Cats Over Concord

Monae Baker (Bushkill, Pa.) posted game-highs of 31 points and 12 rebounds and Sheena Aden (Sandy Lake, Pa.) added 16 points to move to within 22 points of 1,000 for her career to help the Lady Cats build a 15-point second half lead, en route to an 81-69 victory over Concord (WV) University, Thursday evening in the Sports Center. Pitt-Johnstown snapped a three-game losing skid and improved to 10-9 overall and 7-7 in the WVIAC.
Aden enters Saturday's home game against Bluefield State (WV) College with 978 points, just 22 shy of becoming the 32nd Lady Cat 1,000-point scorer.
Concord held a two-point lead seven minutes into the game, but two of Baker's 14 first half points knotted the score at 15. The Lady Cats went up 23-19 on Kelly Goode's (Pleasant Plain, OH) three-pointer from the corner at 8:31. Pitt-Johnstown would never give up the lead again.
Aden's jumper extended the lead to 34-25 with just under five minutes left, before a three-pointer from the top of the key by Baker gave Pitt-Johnstown its largest lead of the half at 39-29 with 2:49 remaining
The Lady Lions outscored Pitt-Johnstown 7-3 the rest of the way to cut the deficit to 42-36 on Camisha Alexander's three-pointer to close out the first half.
The Lady Cats opened the second half on a 13-4 run to build the advantage to 15 with 14:26 to play. A basket from Sara Trimarco (Hollidaysburg, Pa.) took the Lady Cats' lead back into double digits at 48-38, 3:15 into the second half, and Andrea Dalton's (Washington, Pa.) lay-up capped the run to push the lead to 55-40 at 14:26.
Concord cut the deficit to nine at 66-57 at 8:38 on Alexander's fourth three-pointer of the evening, but back-to-back baskets from Aden and Baker quickly got the lead back out to 13 at 70-57.
The Lady Lions battled back again. Concord scored eight of the next nine points to make it 71-65on a pair of free-throws from Kristin Kidd with 4:43 to play.
However, Baker scored seven straight points for Pitt-Johnstown to help the Lady Cats increase the lead to 75-65 with 3:38 on the clock, before going on to the 12-point win.
Pitt-Johnstown, which out-rebounded Concord 43-33, shot 45.5% from the field, 8-22 from three-point range and 13-19 from the free-throw line. The Lady Lions shot just 40.7% from the floor with seven three-pointers. Concord was also 18-22 from the charity stripe.
Baker led all scorers with 31 points on 12-21 shooting from the field, 1-1 from behind the three-point line and 6-9 from the free-throw line. Aden added 16 points, eight rebounds and four assists, while Dalton's 14 points and eight rebounds rounded out the double-figure scorers. Qiuana Brown (Monroeville, Pa.) tallied nine points, and Trimarco dished out a game-high 10 assists.
Alexander paced Concord with 26 points. Brown netted 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds, and Bibb had 10 points for the Lady Lions, who dropped to 10-8 overall and 7-6 in the WVIAC.
Pitt-Johnstown will host a WVIAC doubleheader against Bluefield State (WV) for Alumni Night on Saturday in the Sports Center. The Lady Cats will tip-off at 5:30 p.m. with the men's game to follow at 7:30 p.m. Pitt-Johnstown will then travel to West Liberty (WV) University on Thursday, before hosting Wheeling Jesuit (WV) University on February 13 for a doubleheader on Breast Cancer Awareness Night and a tribute to the late Jody Billingsley.
